Why didn’t Lane Kiffin spike the ball at midfield with less than 20 seconds remaining? Matt Barkley said he did not make those decisions, so that left Kiffin.
He did not address this during a hectic post-game press conference when it was mentioned.
It was an awful sight watching the clock wind down and then Barkley heaving a pass down sideline when USC still could run 2-3 plays to get into field-goal range.
I am thoroughly confused if Barkley truly needed permission to spike the ball. Can you post his exact words? I agree that the clock management couldn’t get any worse; question is who does it fall on? If Barkley really needed permission to spike the ball that’s like a batter needing his third base couch to wave him home on a home run.
