Lingering Questions From The Goal Line

  1. Why didn’t Lane Kiffin try something other than a quarterback sneak on two straight plays?
  2. Why doesn’t he have a fullback blocking for the tailback on goal-line offense?
  3. Why entrust everything to a fullback position that clearly demonstrated problems catching the ball this season?
  4.  Why not discover there are tight ends that can catch?

  1. Wolf man as one of your colleagues from another site tweeted lane kiffin has an ihop menu not a play chart..but we all know the lack of an oc shows lane can’t make a clear cut decision on a play which involves anybody else that isn’t named lee or woods and second guesses himself clearly he needs somebody telling him run this play involving the tight end , hence when him and sark were running the o Fred Davis and dominque byrd were highly involved and a big threat

  2. Ugh… ESPNU just showed a replay of the game. So frustrating to watch… especially from the 5:40 mark of the 4th quarter to the mid 2 minute mark. Heck, even if SC punches the ball in there, they would have used 3 minutes to go 2 yards and still be down by 1 or 2 with one timeout left. Dead Horse I agree!!!

  3. As a Vol fan I’ve seen this before. In Kiffins lone year at UT we lost an early season game to UCLA. We had a chance to win late as we had 2nd and Goal on the 1 yd line. We got stuffed 3 straight plays running at left tackle. As if that don’t make sense itself try the fact that our left guard was a walk on who was blocking and all american defensive tackle for UCLA.

  4. Wolf question for you…who do you think USC should pursue to hire as defensive and offensive coordinators and if you are Pat Hayden do u try and lure an SEC guy out here to run the D

    • Not sure an SEC D-coordinator has a lot of experience defending spread offenses. However, this coach would support having bulky-large linemen controlling the line of scrimmage which would be coach Orgeron’s way of doing things.

      • You do know the SEC might have 2-3 spread offenses in their league and the PAC-12 has at least 10 of them…

        • Yeah but having a big d line that’s able to disrupt the line can make it difficult for reads on the spread and give the linebackers the ability fill the right gaps hence look what auburn did in the ncg vs Oregon Nick Farley was causing havoc on that o line

          • Absolutely! But will Kiffin, if kept, allow coach O to stockpile these type players, as is badly needed, in place of signing more of his beloved WR & TE overkills?

  5. You really want the reason for all those questions, Scott? The reason is that Lane Kiffin is one boneheaded football coach, who’s unseasoned, overrated, immature, and simply unqualified to lead an elite college football program, such as USC. In fact, he wouldn’t even make a successful high school coach. And that’s my honest assessment on him.

  6. I thought the clock management failures were even more glaring than the playcalling failures.

Why not go no huddle when time is of the essence?
Why not have called the next two plays at once after the long pass to Lee?
Why take so long to get a play call in when the play call is a QB sneak?
Why have to burn a TO on offense when you’ll need them on D?
Why they slow, dawdling approach to calling plays in a 2 min drill?

  7. All the sportswriters in LA are on the same page as to what the problem is in the USC football program as are a few opposing coaches: Lane Kiffin and his playcalling… Lane Kiffin and his chosen D-coordinator… Lane Kiffin’s game management… Lane Kiffin and all the talent he under-uses… Lane Kiffin, Lane Kiffin, Lane……..

And Pat Haden (Max Nikias) are 150% in support of him? What goes on?

  8. Kiffin’s comment (LA Times), “They have a good scheme, they had great players down there, they did
that to everybody,” Kiffin said. “They stopped the guys from Stanford,
they stopped everybody they played down there, that’s really the story.”. So why the hell do you run the same play? Kiffin is not Head Coach material for the caliber of USC. Garret brought him in as the Pete Carroll staff coming back to keep the players and recruits when the sanctions hit. Last year and Ohio State and Penn St. showed you can still win under sanctions. Elite programs have Head coaches that have proven themselves winners. Les Miles, Nick Saban, Urban Myer, Brian Kellly are winners every where they have been as HC. Chris Kelly and Mushamp were Coordinators that were groomed to be HC. Kiffin is none of these guys. He may have been the only choice 3 years ago, now he’s got to go.
