Woods On Pro Prospects

Robert Woods said there are a lot of factors that go into his decision on whether to turn pro.

“It depends (on a lot of things),” Woods said. “The first round is definitely the goal. But that would depend on things like the combine and Pro Day.”

New Offense?

Some college coaches have suggested to me that USC needs to add the spread offense — or elements of it — in order to avoid falling behind schools that beat the Trojans this season like Oregon, Arizona and UCLA.

Lane Kiffin seems resistant because his background is in pro-style offenses. So why not hire an offensive coordinator that can install some spread plays?

Morning Buzz

Some popular names for defensive coordinator are ex-Auburn coach Gene Chizik, TCU assistant Randy Shannon and maybe even San Diego Chargers assistant Joe Barry.

When Lane Kiffin was at Tennessee, many SEC coaches resented Chizik because of his recruiting tactics. Would that affect a potential hiring of Chizik? Would Chizik even want to be an assistant?

Shannon is a big name but does he want to take what could be a one-and-done job with Kiffin on the hot seat next year?

And let’s remember Barry left because of clashes with Monte Kiffin. Would all be forgiven to bring Barry back?

Lingering Questions From The Goal Line

  1. Why didn’t Lane Kiffin try something other than a quarterback sneak on two straight plays?
  2. Why doesn’t he have a fullback blocking for the tailback on goal-line offense?
  3. Why entrust everything to a fullback position that clearly demonstrated problems catching the ball this season?
  4.  Why not discover there are tight ends that can catch?
