Answer Sunday!

In this segment, a question about linebacker play.

Q: SCFTBL1

I WATCHED THE BENCHES BETWEEN THE THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTERS AND SAW fucla PLAYERS EXCITED AND JUMPING UP AND DOWN. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE TROJAN BENCH THERE WAS NO SPIRIT OR EXCITEMENT BEING DISPLAYED. WHAT KIND OF LEADERSHIP STYLE IS KIFFIN USING? DO YOU THINK THE BENCH WOULD BE DIFFERENT UNDER FISHER, DEL RIO, ORGERON, OR GRUDEN? I DO!

KIFFIN IS NO PETE CARROLL.

A: It would be different because I don’t think those coaches would be starting at a play chart the whole game. That is why I’m in favor of Kiffin hiring an offensive coordinator so he can manage a game and not let the sideline become a dead zone.

Q: Cheat theSystem

Scott, now that Barkley’s career is “over” what exactly did he do to you that makes you hate him so?

  • Real Question: Why is Dawson not getting any heat for his atrocious play at MLB? Kennard was horrible at it, but better most times than Dawson. Missed tackles, dropped picks (at least two–which would have changed the outcome of Oregon and Ucla games!).

Kiffin is taking a lot of heat, but his biggest shortcoming is his unwillingness to run the football–but with a banged up RB corps…what is he supposed to do?

A: I’ve heard a lot of fans ask about Dawson since the UCLA game and I’d say the entire linebacking unit played inconsistent though Dawson was the most noticeable.

I think it is fair to ask why? Could it be something so easy as Joe Barry’s departure as linebackers coach? That is something I’ve been told by some within the program. Maybe USC should bring him back since it looks like the Chargers might get rid of Norv Turner after the season.

  1. “I’ve been told by some within the program.”

Who within the program would actually give this guy the time of day?

Just a bunch of posturing by the wolfman

  2. Scott, I have been waiting for you to bring back “open Questions”. I only have 20 I’d like to ask you right now Scott.

I mentioned about halfway in the season the backers were not tackling & defending their area behind the D-line. I was corrected by someone that Dawson was actually doing a good job tackling. This just wasn’t happening when I watched the USC games. I don’t know what games he was watching, but it wasnt the same ones I was watching. Was the year Joe Barry was coaching here show any better results? If I remember correctly, teams were running up the middle every bit as much as they were this year. The ballrunner wasn’t being stopped until he got into the DB/S area many many times. A Red Flag, folks!

    • Dawson had 0 sacks, 0 unassisted tackles for a loss and 4 assisted tackles for a loss, on top of all the missed tackles. Who was he tackling, no one…..People keep pointing fingers at the coaches, but what it comes down to is players not making the plays, especially on defense
