Martin Update

USC wide receivers coach Tee Martin is in Knoxville today interviewing for a spot on the Volunteers’ coaching staff. Who can begrudge Martin for returning to his alma mater?

But if he does leave it could also be attributed to some issues he had at USC. According to sources, Martin grew weary of the repetitive nature of some duties that USC coaches are required to do during the season. Some former coaches have also complained about this in the past, feeling it is inefficient.

And last week, Martin wanted to attend the college football awards show in Orlando, Fla., to support wide receiver Marqise Lee when he won the Biletnikoff Award. But USC coach Lane Kiffin did not want him to miss Friday’s practice, according to sources.

  1. If I were an assistant football coach, I would want a better amount of money working for a headcoach like Lane Kiffin to overcome his underacheiving skills. I don’t blame Tee Martin at all… but he will not get to work with the talent he has at USC.

    • Yeah, he won’t get to work with talent like USC. It’s not like UT is going to put 2 first round pick early entrees into the draft this year at the WR position after kicking off another NFL ready receiver before the season started. And its not like UT signed four 4-star WR last year.

  2. that seems like a dick move by Kiffin to not let Martin go to the awards presentation. Not the best way to build morale in the staff

  3. Technically, global warming, lead paint in older buildings and Kim K’s failed marriage “could” also attribute to the decision.

  4. What duties during the season? Do other schools not require these duties?

Would it be typical for the asst. coach to attend the football awards show?

Tee Martin will do what he does. The objective should be for USC to explore “best methods” policies and expectations of all assistant coaches. Obviously, a successful program must be competitive as a desirable place to work.

    • Exactly!…what are the duties?

Look what Pete is doing in Seattle, they are playing some of the best football in the NFC…..

    • This is a typical weasel-Wolf post. Allude cryptically to an issue within the program, but don’t elaborate. In fact, never mention it again.

So what are the “repetitive duties”? How are different than what happens at other programs? How are these “duties” inefficient?

A real reporter would then answer the obvious as best he/she could. Hell, even an actor playing a real reporter would try to do so. But Wolfie, who is not a reporter and barely even pretends he’s one anymore, except when he is banned from practice, can’t be bothered.

  5. Kiffin seems insecure on this one big time. I think Kiff was afraid that Martin would talk to other schools while at the awards show.

You can’t hold him (Tee) down…you can’t hold him down! Tee’s gone.
