Lane Kiffin Says No To Hiring Offensive Coordinator

USC coach Lane Kiffin said after a rainy practice today he would not be adding any offensive assistants or hiring an offensive coordinator. This is news because Kiffin said during the regular season he would consider all options.

This means Kennedy Polamalu remains the official offensive coordinator and Kiffin calls plays next season.

  1. That way when Kiffin visits recruits he can keep telling them: “Tell you what, you sign with us and I’ll get a play design for you. Pssst, I know the guy who calls all the plays!”

    • Sounds correct. At a minimum, it’s a risky gambit for Kiffin not to engage someone to collaborate with him. If I had his national image, I would hang on for dear life to make this work. Unless, consciously or subconsciously, he wants to return to being an OC, and needs to show his merit at it. Could that be it?

IMHO, if Haden permits it, he’s holding the reins too loosely. Kiffin has not succeeded in 2012 as a CEO of the program, or as the OC.

  2. Well, maybe this gets him fired after next season, 7-6 8-5 is very possible and if the team tunes him out like this year, it will be worse.

  3. Noel Mazzone confirms that he’s staying as UCLA’s OC, Anthony Barr announces he’s returning for his senior season, and Kiffin announces he’s going to hold onto the Denny’s menu. What a great day!

    • BREAKING: “Owning” the Rose Bowl is better in November than it is in January, according to sources in Westwood

      • 9-7 vs UCLA in the Rose Bowl, including this year’s win = Someone needs to stop using their embarrassing handle and find a new one–such as, USC Owns the Sun Bowl. Silly little Trojan.

  4. Alright KIffin. Better yet, how about calling no plays at all? Get fired. Resign. Quit. Whatever! Just stop being there, won’t you?

    • I think he shoould resort to the close-your-eyes-and-throw-darts-at-the-Denny’s-menu method of play calling. Hey, it works for monkeys and the stock market!
