Sun Bowl Report Card

Here are the grades from the debacle in El Paso.

RESULT: Georgia Tech 21, USC 7

RECORD: 7-6

WEEK 13 GRADE: D+

QUARTERBACK

Incoming freshman Max Browne must think he will start next season.

F

RUNNING BACKS

Hard to remember another game where backs stopped right at line so often.

C-

WIDE RECEIVERS

If things do not go your way, you still need to keep your composure.

D+

OFFENSIVE LINE

Even TB Silas Redd says offense needs to become “more physical.”

D

DEFENSIVE LINE

Freshman Leonard Williams recorded 14 tackles from all those Tech running plays.

B

LINEBACKERS

Lamar Dawson lost starting spot for Sun Bowl. Another sign how season deteriorated.

B-

DEFENSIVE BACKS

What can you say when you give up TD on third-and-goal from 17 to option team?

C+

SPECIAL TEAMS

Allowed punt return for TD. Missed FG. Best special teams in country all right.

F

COACHING

Lane Kiffin is 0-11 at USC when trailing by seven-or-more points in second half.

  1. First page I check each morning hoping to see the headline “Haden announces Lane Kiffin out as head coach.” Anything else is GroundHog Day.

  2. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Guy Miley watches the team implode and sits idly by, smiling and instead bragging about the rise of women’s volleyball and men’s lacrosse.

    F (fire PH!)

  3. USC scored enough points to win games, however, the defence under Monty Kiffin gave up to many points to lose. IMO on Lane Kiffin, I understand that NCAA sanctions were damaging for the university and team, but if he couldn’t produce with the present talent, he won’t be able to do any better in the future. I hope Pat Haden’s paying attention.

  4. How come no one gets on David Shaw or Sark for carrying around a play calling sheet? Aside from the personal attacks, I get that SC was flat offensively and that the play calling was limited and ineffective, but you would expect limited play calling with a shuffling, hapless offensive line and howling wind. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Kiffin does some things right…better than this dead beat writer.
