Recruit And Get Results

USC moved up to No. 3 in Rivals.com’s recruiting rankings following safety Leon McQuay III’s commitment. It was a significant commitment but as usual, I see some fans are acting like it is more important than winning on the field.

In a sense, when five-star players like McQuay commit, it deprives Lane Kiffin (and his staff) from claiming talent is a reason for not winning. Imagine how Oregon State, Stanford and Boise State survive without an army of five-star recruits.

USC must be better next season. At least now we won’t hear there isn’t enough talent at safety for the defense to succeed.

scott hearing usc is going to hire pat narduzzi

    • socal2582

The wolf is staying humble on it. .I read they will announce it Tuesday just as u posted the deal is worth 1.2 I have a feeling the d is going to be sick we get kennard back and can’t wait to see that beast Bigelow play in a narduzzi style d is it August yet fight on!!

      • BearBryant3

The team will defintely be more physical, I ready to see usc play that way again. Been watch narduzzi defense for two years now.

    • L’Angelo Misterioso

His teams SUCKED against running QB’s look it up, horrible.

      • BearBryant3

Look it up against the two best running qb’s in big 10 michigan and ohio state he gave up 12 & 16 points. The most he gave up was 24 points against Nebraska. LOOK IT UP!!!

        • old_trojan_93

He gave up a lot of yards to Nebraska. Against Michigan, he kept DRob under 100 yards.

          • BearBryant3

Again 24 points two years in a row

          • dtksr1 @dslextreme.com

Give it up man… you are delusional about this man who “only knows how to defend BIG 10 offenses. He’s another damn Monte!

          • BearBryant3

Monte only coached against the same offense over and over again. Remember miami came out with the wildcat and it was like the nfl coaches had never seen that before. Cover 2 in the nfl is different then college hashes are tighter in the nfl create the same amount of distance for both safeties to cover from left to right hash. While college are wide, left and right hash creates more space to the field side. Under china 2 works in the nfl because of the speed of nfl defenders and lack of a run game in the nfl, that has always been the weakness of cover 2 because you only have 7 in the box and your backers are faster but also smaller then most nfl defenses.

          • BearBryant3

That’s with at best the 4th best recruiting classes behind ohio state michigan nebraska and wisconsin

    • dtksr1 @dslextreme.com

That would be a mistake! The PAC-12 is not a 3-yards & a cloud of dust league that the BIG 10 basically still is, which is all that he knows! He would be just as lost as Monte and another disaster!

      • BearBryant3

Sorry one of the best two teams in conference is a big ten pound it type of team, stanford has beaten usc how many years in a row now. I laugh at how people say you got to stop all these spread teams. There’s only three out of 12. Oregon, Ucla and Arizona. These are dynamic spread teams who want to run the ball of spread, not throw. Michigan state defense bring 9 to the box no matter what, backers are taught to be run first defenders along with the two safties. They want teams to throw and see if they can be accurate and consistant.

  • nard dog

The Nard dog is coming. Watch me little gutties. And watch Mora leave. The Nard dog has spoken.

  • socal2582

We know it falls on the coaching especially the defensive coordinator so can u confirm that we got narduzzi or is it a work in progress answers Scott the trojan empire want answers

  • RallyMonkeyUSA

Any reliable sources that confirm pat narduzzi hire? The Wild West forum isn’t something I want to believe. But if ur looking for clues, pat just followed lane Kiffin on twitter abut 2 days ago…that’s reliable…I guess? Especially when u consider he only follows a few ppl.

  • Ted

I think Clancy Perdergast makes more sense. Guy who could influence recruiting on the west coast and a guy who had some success stopping Oregon, Stanford and Ucla. Narduzzi had success stopping slow big 10 offenses but one and only program that has similar offense to most teams in Pac-12, Nebraska in the Big-10 ran all over them last 2 years.

    • BearBryant3

Yeah 24 points the last two years a little different then what oregon did this year alone to usc defense

    • betomas

Tosh Lupoi is way better and he is a MASSIVE recruiter.

      • dtksr1 @dslextreme.com

Tosh has never made a name for himself in actually DC’ing against top offenses. Come on… He can recruit linemen on the west coast but he has no influence elsewhere, like in the south where you find mean-nasty linemen. We need a proven DC that has a “track record” in stopping potent offenses! I’m not even sure Kiffin can lure that level of coach. I would pick Pendergast before Narduzzi also. As it has been pointed out, Narduzzi has never played against an Oregon, Baylor, Oklahoma or Neveda type offense yet. So how the hell do we know he can even compete against what a PAC-12 DC will face?

      • TrojanFan

What the hell are you talking about, try doing your homework first….We need a national recruiter, not a west coast recruiter

  • Cheap seats

More “news” to bash Kiffin… you’d think he’d mention Chip Kelly going to the Chiefs???

Then again, he’d find a way to use that story as another dig on LK.

    • steveg

      so true, fight on.

    • Cheap seats

      Oops….meant Browns.

  • L’Angelo Misterioso

How does it feel Trojan fans to have a kid getting into school with an ACT of 19 ? When your kid gets denied with a 31 ACT, look at this mumbling moron and think of your kid who got turned down because he/she didn’t play a revenue sport.

    • TrojanFan

Does your kid have a unique skill set?…..doubt it!…..enough say

      • http://twitter.com/FatBooster Joe Blow

TF, shed did but its illegal.

  • steveg

Did someone on the “inside” say something this season about our safeties being the reason the defense did not succeed? I must have missed that one. Or was it Wolf? Couldn’t be though, he isn’t on the inside.

    • TrojanFan

Let me see here, poor tackling in space, weak at the point of attack, undisciplined( excessive penalties, poor gap integrity)on top of a overly complicate outdated defensive scheme, pick your poison!

    • SoCal_Native_59

He isn’t allowed in the building

  • Arturo

If it was just about recruiting than Texas, Florida, FSU, Ohio St. , Miami, and Georgia would win every year. All these schools have struggled the last years (FSU, Georgia, Florida and OSU did have good 2012s) and one of the problems is that their top ranked players leave early, have an eye on the NFL, are primadonnas, and lack discipline. Line up Oregon with USC and player for player SC is more talented but it is just more complicated than what SW is making it out to be.
