USC moved up to No. 3 in Rivals.com’s recruiting rankings following safety Leon McQuay III’s commitment. It was a significant commitment but as usual, I see some fans are acting like it is more important than winning on the field.
In a sense, when five-star players like McQuay commit, it deprives Lane Kiffin (and his staff) from claiming talent is a reason for not winning. Imagine how Oregon State, Stanford and Boise State survive without an army of five-star recruits.
USC must be better next season. At least now we won’t hear there isn’t enough talent at safety for the defense to succeed.
