Basketball Coaching Search Baby Steps

We hear USC took some steps this week to start its search for a basketball coach by reaching out to some former school figures who still are active in college basketball. The search is still in its infancy stage but we hear familiar names Pitt coach Jamie Dixon and St. Mary’s coach Randy Bennett.

A couple exotic names being thrown out are former Lakers coach Mike Brown and Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin.

  1. No Ernie Kent or Paul Westphal? What about Rick Pitino or Tara VanDerveer? Maybe Phil Jackson,.

  3. Unless Haden had somebody immediately ready to take over, I would not expect a decision till after March Madness. See What Cantu can do and line up interviews for after the end of the season. Would be surprised if there is a hire in mid season.

  4. I think. Mike brown would be a good choice. He could recruit well being former coach of Lebron and kobe. He would get my approval.

  5. Jackson isn’t going to coach college ball. He couldn’t deal with the recruiting. And USC couldn’t afford him

Paul Westphal would be a Garrett choice. Played and coached in the NBA. That’s all Garrett cared about. Who cares if his last few coaching jobs were disasters. HE COACHED IN THE NBA! It’s how we got stuck with O’Neill.

Brown is interesting, because he likes that Princeton offense, which is a very college offense. Not sure whether he can recruit.

No one worth talking to is going to sign up until after the tourney.
