Scratch Randy Bennett Off The List

Pitt coach Jamie Dixon remains USC’s preferred choice for the basketball job but St. Mary’s coach Randy Bennett was always a B-list candidate if the top guys fell through. Until now.

Bennett was suspended five games next year and St. Mary’s received four years’ probation by the NCAA on Friday. In the current environment at USC, that makes Bennett a no-go as a coaching candidate.

Virginia coach Tony Bennett and New Mexico coach Steve Alford remain strong candidates behind Dixon.

    Anyone with any strong opinions on Dixon? Will his East Coast “PowerBall” game translate to the up tempo Pac-12? Is he a screamer like Howland, and will players tune him out after a while? I like the Alford choice, but only because I grew up with Indiana basketball.

      I personally think Alford is the best choice. He’s worked wonders with New Mexico and is a great basketball mind. Dixon is also very intriguing, if only that he has Southern California connections through his wife. Alford’s game would be more up tempo and more emphasis on the three. Dixon’s would be more boring but a more pound down low and emphasize defense. I think either could win at USC but as a basketball fan I think Alford is the more exciting choice.

          Jezro, that we agree on!! Bonespur Bill is not the only one who finds that practice ULTRA annoying….talk about a momentum breaker!!

          although i have to admit Howland went to run and gun and zone this year, which he was always too stubborn to do and in the past might have won him at least one natty…

    forget the list….Can’tDo will be the coach next year. Dixon WILL NOT take the job.

    anyways, as Chucker Bucker predicted the day CKO was fired, the team will continue it’s us against the world surge and make the NIT….this along with their several inspired wins against the like of UCLA and AZ, will leave squishy-soft Bounce Pass no choice but to keep Can’tDo on for one more season.

    who know? with their Tri-Towers, trOXans might WIN the NIT and then Can’tDo is here for 2 yrs!!!

    With the amount of baskets that SuC makes, calling a time out after a basket will stay a novelty for quite a number of years!!
