Pitt’s loss in the NCAA Tournament is a win-win even if you are unhappy with Dixon’s tournament record of 10-9. He is available earlier and maybe Pitt won’t mind and Dixon won’t be persuaded as strongly to remain in Pittsburgh.

Why the hard-on for Dixon. Why not Steve Alford? Impressive that he can get a #3 seed with New Mexico.
He is definitely my first choice of potential coaches.
Actually though I am also more interested in Mike Hopkins than Dixon. I think giving someone like Hopkins, who has apprenticed under Boeheim, could give USC a recruiting presence on both coasts. He’s young and energetic, and a great track record of success at SU. Plus he went to high school locally so he definitely could jump at the chance to return to LA. I do worry though tat if USC offers him the job, SU could give him a huge raise and Boeheim could promise to retire within three years or so, which would likely keep Hopkins in upstate NY.
Why would we want this proven failure? Tim Floyd had more success at SC than Jaimie’s Crying did at Pitt.
It’s probably hard to convince kids to move to Pittsburgh.
