Quarterback Max Wittek practiced Tuesday and said he felt good despite some soreness in his knee.
“I felt like a cybertron with two knee braces,” Wittek said. “I felt like I was going a little bit slow.”
Wittek said he would practice better Thursday after getting rid of the rust from not practicing for several weeks.
The former USC QB is now playing for San Jose of the Arena Football League after playing minor league baseball. Link here.
Since he seems to be interested in the USC job, is it a fair question to ask if it matters that he often comes across as difficult to deal with? And I’m not talking about the media but quite a few people in the UCLA athletic dept. dreaded dealing with him.
Should that be a factor in hiring a coach? Or does it only matter if he wins? This is something for Pat Haden to consider, especially as he works to soften Lane Kiffin’s image.
Spring football returns today and we will see how many of the injured Trojans practice. Qaurterback Max Wittek is expected back and so is wide receiver Marqise Lee, who is experiencing a low-key spring compared to last year when he split time between football and track.
Lee’s spent nearly all his time with football this spring and it will be interesting to see if he goes to any track meets next month like he did last April.
Meanwhile, Mater Dei third baseman Ryan McMahon, who signed with USC, hit two home runs and drove in seven runs in three games last week.
Here’s my interview with Steve Hartman today regarding Ben Howland and the difficulty of coaching in Los Angeles. Listen here
Former USC forward Nikola Vucevic is averaging 12.4 points and 11.5 rebounds a game as a first-time starter this season with the Orlando Magic and here’s a story on him by USA Today.
Here’s what the ex-UCLA coach Ben Howland said when asked about USC: “I’m interested in every job that’s high major. There’s not that many. We’ll see.”
Former UCLA coach Ben Howland was asked today if he was interested in coaching at USC? Howland said he was interested in any high-major job.
The schools literally could be speaking to the agents for the same coaches today. So who do you think USC ends up with? And UCLA?
I will be on the Loose Cannons show with Steve Hartman on 570-AM at 1:30 p.m. (PT) to discuss the firing of Ben Howland and how tough it is to coach in Los Angeles.
