Eagles Coach Chip Kelly On Drafting Matt Barkley

Here’s what Chip Kelly said after taking Matt Barkley:

“We had Matt rated in the top 50 players in the draft. He has all the intangibles you’re looking at. If you go to the film and the body of his work, he’s had an outstanding career and we’re excited to have him. There was no better value for us than to take Matt.”

  • I don’t get this? I don’t see Matt running a spread offense.

  • Ben Factor

    It sure puzzles me.

Didn’t expect 1st round, not surprised by absence from 2nd round, somewhat surprised by absence from 3rd round.

But Philadelphia and Chip Kelly? Shocked. I wonder what Kelly has in mind?

a way, I’m glad for Matt, because Kelly seems like an incisive thinker,
who can tell Matt what he needs to do. I thought he was kind of
self-satisfied at USC. He was not doing everything well, I didn’t
sense he was too nervous about that, and I never heard him talk very
specifically about where he was going wrong. That’s caused somewhat by
    how one is coached.
