Yahoo’s Eddie George on why Matt Barkley was not picked in first three rounds.

“It’s simple,” George said. “I don’t think he is a starter at the quarterback position. I think at best he’s a backup quarterback.”

USC Morning Buzz

Remember this Lane Kiffin quote at the end of Matt Barkley’s junior season?

“How do you not draft that kid? He’s going up there in the top five.”

USC Morning Buzz

It was a long wait for USC QB Matt Barkley but worth it for him when he landed with the Eagles.

“The first time I saw Matt Barkley, he was a true freshman and he came into Autzen Stadium which is one of the toughest places to play in the world and it didn’t faze him a bit,” Eagles coach Chip Kelly said.

Meanwhile, USC tailback Curtis McNeal signed a free-agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Linebacker Uona Kaveinga, who started his career at USC but transferred to BYU, signed with the Denver Broncos.

UCLA Sweeps USC In Dual Track Meet

The Trojan men lost 85-78 while the women lost 90-73, snapping the Trojans’ five-year winning streak in the women’s meet. USC sprinter Bryshon Nellum won the 200-and-400 meters.

His time of 20.37 in the 200 is the fastest current NCAA time and fourth fastest time in the world this year. It is also the fourth fastest time in USC history and personal best for Nellum.

Former USC WR Brice Butler Drafted By Raiders

Butler, who transferred to San Diego State for his senior season and ran a great 40 time at his Pro Day workout, was taken by the Raiders in the seventh round. Safe to say transferring worked out for him because I doubt Lane Kiffin would have played him ahead of Nelson Agholor last season.
