Matt Barkley Draft Reaction
“The fact that the Eagles have given me a chance and believe in me, that’s all I need,” USC quarterback Matt Barkley said after being selected in the fourth round.
Even More Reaction From Matt Barkley
“I’ll definitely remember this weekend for the rest of my career,” Barkley said. “It will spurn me on to compete and challenge myself just to be a better quarterback. You visualize all the picks that went in front of you, especially the other quarterbacks that were taken.”
Steelers `Comfortable’ With Jarvis Jones
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who selected former USC linebacker Jarvis Jones in the first round, had no qualms taking the linebacker after reviewing his medical history.
“We were comfortable with what we saw from a medical standpoint,” Tomlin said.
Remember Jones trasnferred from USC to Georgia because he could not get medically cleared following a neck injury.
Khaled Holmes Picked By Colts In Fourth Round
The USC center was the 121st player selected in the draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Nickell Robey is the next USC player expected to be drafted.
Eagles Coach Chip Kelly On Drafting Matt Barkley
Here’s what Chip Kelly said after taking Matt Barkley:
“We had Matt rated in the top 50 players in the draft. He has all the intangibles you’re looking at. If you go to the film and the body of his work, he’s had an outstanding career and we’re excited to have him. There was no better value for us than to take Matt.”
Matt Barkley Joins Nick Foles and Dennis Dixon
The Eagles roster now has three Pac-12 quarterbacks: Matt Barkley (USC), Nick Foles (Arizona) and Dennis Dixon (Oregon). By the way, it is estimated Barkley will receive about $11.6 million less in guaranteed money than if he was a top 10 pick last season.
Eagles Select Matt Barkley
The long wait is finally over and Matt Barkley goes to the Philadelphia Eagles with the first pick of the fourth round. The Eagles made a trade with the Jaguars to acquire the pick and take Barkley.
Rams Coach Jeff Fisher On T.J. McDonald
“I followed T.J. the last couple years. T.J. is a big safety that moves well, covers and can hit. His dad played a little heavier than T.J. is now, but T.J. is a fine athlete. Long arms.” — Jeff Fisher
Fisher said he was “nervous” before his pick that McDonald would get selected beforehand.
Will Matt Barkley Go In The Fourth Round?
The Jaguars still need a QB and have the first pick of the fourth round. This does not exactly bode well for Lane Kiffin telling future players to return for their senior season.
