USC Morning Buzz

USC reportedly will get Darion Clark is a 6-foot-6 forward from North Carolina-Charlotte, who will transfer and sit out next season. Clark averaged 6.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season.

For all the buzz surrounding Andy Enfield, you might expect some higher-profile or higher-ranked players to commit or enroll but he probably is looking at what his roster needs will be two years from now.  Right?

  1. Getting malcontents and busts from othe programs is not what was envisioned from Andy. The assumption was Andy would use his credibility to build the program from the bottom up with solid recruiting in talent rich Los Angeles and have these players to develop for 4 years to learn his system. Instead of the measured plan of a Mike Montgomery, this wasting of scholarships to bring in flakes sounds more like the short term tactics of Kevin O’Neill. Heaven knows we SC fans are more than willing to give Andy a couple of years to turn things around- the question is, what is his hurry? Is Pat Haden pressuring him for instant results? Is Andy trying to get some short term success with one or two year contributors and then leave for greener pastures?

  2. Essentially, two of O’Neill’s recruiting classes no longer exist.

The entire 2010 class is gone, and not becuase they left early because they were studs.

The 2011, with Blasczyk out of eligibility and Dedmon leaving, only Byron Wesley and Ari Stewart a transfer, remain.

Fontan is gone, Fuller is gone, Wise is gone, Banner is concentrating on Football.

USC is way way down on talent and they need warm bodies, and with early signing for baskeball, there isn’t anyone decent to go after for next season. How he recruits for the 2014 class is the key.
