USC `Commit’ Tashon Smallwood Names His Top Five

This is how it works these days Defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood, who is committed to USC, listed his top five schools on twitter: Miami, UCLA, USC, Alabama, and Arizona State. It once again demonstrates how a verbal commitment can mean just about anything.

  1. “Verbal commitment.”?….. How about a LOI that has been signed, sealed and delivered????…….Schools will soon have an attorney present during these LOI announcements on signing day to explain the fine print to these kids……

    • Count the players who signed LOI’s and then opted out. Too few to think about, except that 90% of the media is too lazy to pursue any story that would require actual research, so the focus is on these non-events.

When a school is in the position of USC in 2013, I’m not sure that commitments should even be encouraged, until the season unfolds. Sure, it’s good to identify the guys you would like, get them to visit, show them how you would develop them as players. But whatever they say before this rather important season is as meaningless as the media is lazy.

  2. it seems to be the new sport to wait till the last minute and THEN de-commit ans leave the trOXans cryin’ in the rain!!!

    HAWR-HAWR!!!

    • You stupid idiot, confused again! Here is what you’re really trying to say:

it seems to be the new sport to wait till the last minute and see what scraps USC leaves us!

      HAWR-HAWR!!!

  3. The only reason he listed ucla was because mora offered a new pair shoes….Sound like “bait and switch” to me

  4. Which is why USC hasn’t made a real push for recruits yet.. They have been burnt too many times and would rather wait, then worry about the FLIP FLOPPER!

  5. There are only 2 schools on his list that have actually been relevant in football in the last 10-15 yrs!

  6. Looks like another USC “pledge” (they really should not be called “commitments”, IMO) is waffling…….. Austin Maloata is reportedly looking around, as well…..not terribly surprising…..
