Jordan Austin Commits To USC

Offensive tackle Jordan Austin of Claremont committed to USC tonight. Now here is the tricky part. Did he wow USC at camp or were the Trojans always on his trail? He is only rated three stars by multiple recruiting services but maybe they just don’t know enough about him.

But if you look at who offered him a scholarship, it is an uninspiring list: Fresno State, Nevada, Harvard, Colorado, Arizona, San Diego State and Washington, of course, because Steve Sarkisian is the king of three-star recruits.

He can enroll early, which is always a reason to take a lesser-regarded recruit. Maybe he is a diamond in the rough. But Lane Kiffin cannot fall back on the “star ranking” of his class so far with three three-star commitments.

  1. Thumbs up if you’d prefer to see TrojanFan and his idiotic comments that make real Trojans fans look bad banned from this site.

  2. Thumbs up if you’d prefer to see bucket(aka betomas and all his other handles) and his antagonistic comments that make real Bruin fans look bad banned from this site.

  3. Wow we beat out Haah-vard? This has to be a bad dream. Tell me Pete Carroll is still our coach!

  4. Can’t wait for Scott to meet Jordan’s father. Someday, one dad is going to punch the bald headed d bag in the nose.

  5. “He can enroll early, which is always a reason to take a lesser-regarded recruit” – isn’t this rather simplistic Scottie given the complications of the Kylie Fitts situation this year?

  6. This is one of Scotties most ridiculous posts ever…..You can almost see his mind at work…. carefully covering all of his bases…..dissecting every possible angle…. and for what?…..an 18 year old kid who is trying to get a scholarship to a top flight university in exchange for playing the game of football……”Tricky part”? Who cares if he “wowed” USC (he obviously did) or if the Trojans were “always on his trail”????… Do you really believe everything that’s on the internet? (Bonjour!…..) He may be 3 stars now, but players have been known to increase their stock or drop in value, according to these “recruiting services”…..and a 5 star recruit guarantees absolutely NOTHING, Wolf….. you should know that by now……And the “uninspiring list” of universities to which you refer?… guess what, Wolf?…. they have been known to produce NFL caliber players, too, ya know…..and with recruits have fewer than 5 stars!!!!…it’s about seeing the potential in these athletes and developing them as players……that is the coaches responsibility and the players commitment to reach their maximum potential….and ya know, some players will only be great high school players (Mitch Mustain/Dillon Baxter/Whitney Lewis)….and some will only become great college players (Eric Crouch/Jason White/Matt Leinart)…only a precious few ever reach the NFL….Since 1963, there are only 280 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, 11 of whom are from USC…..that is over 50 years…..early enrollment is ALWAYS a reason to take a lesser-regarded recruit?………that’s good to know, Wolf…. you’re pathetic…..

    • quite a reply from a trogie. I swear just a few months ago the exact opposite was true – SC’s class of 10 guys or whatever was the best ever because it had all 4 & 5* guys. You guys have more flip flops going than Reef.

        • And just look at him now..
.your argument made sense, till the end. The kid should simply get a chance.

  7. and another thing…. personal development and reaching ones potential applies to other careers, too…..including journalism….it must really fry your rear end to see many of your more articulate peers, such as J.A. Adande, Bill Plaschke, Michael Wilbon, Bob Ryan and numerous others, continue to develop and grab that brass ring of success and further their journalism careers on TV…..and some are even best selling authors (Mitch Albom and Mike Lupica come to mind)… meanwhile, you are grunting along on the Petros and Money Show, plodding along in the hamster wheel you call life…You are a 1 star journalist, Wolf………I dunno… Maybe you are a diamond in the rough, too, and we just don’t know it…..

    • NO ONE insults the wolfman on his own blog!!!

you conveniently forget the wolfman is the GO TO source on all things Southern Cal for the national media. when the Bush sanctions came down, when Pete Caroll was fired….the media said to itself “who you gonna call?” and the answer was a resounding “the WOLFMAN!!!”

the wolfman has his own major sports beat and his own blog, he is a HUGE success in his own right. the fickle TV execs often are not refined enough to see the best talent when it is in front of their face!! look at Betty White, she languished as a bit player until she was 94 yrs old!!!

      • Who are you, Johnny from Dirty Dancing? Defending Wolfies honor?…Nobody puts Wolfie in a corner?……”Go to” source?… what SOURCES doe HE have????… this “blog” has turned into a juvenile chat room rife with homophobic slurs, racist comments, etc……..anything but intelligent sports banter, with few exceptions….So now you’re suggesting that Wolf is the “Betty White” of journalism?….. perfect….that’s priceless….

      • Hey, you may be right, but at least they are successful douchers, unlike Wolf…….

      • I agree with you that Plaschke is a sappy sort of writer and that Albom is a product of “good fortune”, but compared with Wolf, they have made the most of their opportunities…..Hey, they just don’t make them like Jim Murray and Allan Malamud anymore, sad to say…..

  8. Sugar sweeet scooopin’, wolfman!! it is clear you are absolutely correct…this commit raises important questions about the stability of the Kiff regime and the consequent impact on recruiting!

i still can’t get over the “preferred walk on” jibber jabber!! wolfman, you are in Mid-season form, and it not ever Pre-season yet!!

  9. Let’s see, trolling Wolf could have focused on the immense positives and potential for this kid: (1) he has a 4.5 GPA and chose USC over Harvard, Duke, et al; (2) he has the right size for his position; and (3) you can question his game planning & management, but Lane Kiffin’s staff has a stellar record of talent evaluation.

When USC recruits all five star recruits, Scott says, “the rankings don’t matter.” Now it seems that Scott views rankings as a flawless predictor of success. Is Scott’s memory so short term that he forgets this year’s NFL draft (the one he covered endlessly when he had Barkley schadenfreude)? The top two picks were offensive tackles — one of which received a paltry four-stars and the other was a TWO-star recruit that only received an offer from Central Michigan.

But you’re right Scott — “here is the tricky part:” Scott actually putting thoughts into his pithy, Twitter-esque musings.

    • Excellent post, WS…. only Wolf could comfortably segue from “A Chip Shot” to a “Cheap Shot”……it’s amazing how empowering it must be for him to sit in front of his computer and type this drivel without the consequences of having to face the people he is personally attacking….

  10. the 3* haul continues. I can’t wait until he decommits later in the year.

    • you mean like this

      4-star
OL Dominick Jackson flips commitment from UCLA to Alabama

      • POW!….B. Miller, you’re going to get a mouth full of cavities from all of this sugary sweet scoopin’ that you’re doin’!……….

      • LOL. Not time for him to show up yet, so I’m happy to let it play out. That said, it’s gotta bother you that UCLA is competing with Alabama and Ohio State for top OL talent while SC is trying to steal 3* kids from ASU! POW!

        • Again, love the knowledge you have on USC! They must be doing something right for you to know so much about the program.

Keep on providing the inside scoop!
