USC Assistant Clay Helton Familiar With QB Josh Rosen

Quarterback Josh Rosen of St. John Bosco currently favors Stanford over other schools, including USC. But he should be familiar with USC offensive coordinator Clay Helton. A reader informs us that in eighth grade, Rosen led a Pop Warner team that included Helton’s son. The team eventually advanced to the Western Regional Finals in Arizona.
Maybe that’s why Helton knows he wants to offer Rosen a scholarship but is trying to get Lane Kiffin’s approval.

  1. sounds like SC REALLY wants him. Why on earth would they wait to get Kiffin’s “approval”? I can’t imagine anyone on that staff really cares that they’ve already offered Sills – even schools as great as UCLA dump kids during the process. This whole episode is insane.

    • This boggles my mind, as well……The only rational thing I can think of is consider the source……Is Helton really waiting for Kiffin’s approval?…..or is this just another case where Wolf is simply stirring the pot?….Stanford is stocked with quality QB’s,for years to come, so it would a big challenge for him to break into the starting line up, as it would at USC……and making an offer is obviously non-binding….no more than a verbal “commit”……

  2. Unlike the other commenters, I don’t find this odd. Rosen would be a 2015 recruit. He camped at USC ONE week ago, along with a second very capable QB, Ricky Town, and David Sills, who is also very capable and ambitious.

USC showed its interest by inviting these QBs to camp there.

Rosen has Stanford as his #1.

How would it help things for USC to produce an instant offer?
If I were Kiffin, my first priority would be next season, my second priority would be next season, my third priority, pretty far behind “next season”, would be the 2014 class, and finally, the 2015 class.

    So what is so odd?

  3. The wolfman has no idea what Helton wants. Just another fabricated story to stir the pot
