It’s Only Money

A couple weeks ago I mentioned the staggering amounts of money donated to USC that enables all the construction projects, including athletic projects like the renovation of Heritage Hall, McKay Center and new swim stadium.

It also applies to teaching positions. David Petraeus, the retired four-star general and former CIA director who resigned in the wake of a sex scandal, has a teaching position at USC. It was reported yesterday he will make $200,000 to teach a course at City University of New York.

But Gawker uncovered an email he sent that mentions USC:

“The truth is that I could have had gotten more money or more prestigious places (you won’t believe what USC will pay per week) but [CUNY’s chancellor] convinced me that this was the principal place to teach.”

I’m guessing some of the minor sports coaches at USC would like to know that figure Petraeus is referring to.

CUNY, Tuition only, is $5,730 per YEAR for NY Residents……USC is $22K per SEMESTER……I think that USC can afford it…. and I don’t begrudge Petraeus for accepting whatever the market will bear for his services…..If the minor sports coaches at USC don’t like what they are earning, then they can look elsewhere for employment…..I don’t mean to sound cold hearted, but it is what it is…..Do I think that people in the entertainment industry and sports make “staggering amounts of money” and are overpaid for what they contribute to society?…. absolutely….are teachers, law enforcement officers, military personnel and firefighters underpaid?… definitely…..

Firemen? Are you serious? What those worthless clowns make is staggering compared to the median income in this country. They’re so useless in cities all they do now is run around in their little red trucks in front of ambulances. Funny how years ago ambulances seemed to be able to get to and fro w.o. the ‘firemen’.

      • Trojan Hoarse

Tell that to the friends, families and loved ones of the 19 elite firefighters/victims of the tragic Yarnell Hill fires……RIP……

        • rusoviet

Big big difference boyo – those were rural firefighters that tragically lost their lives not the urban ambulance drivers.

          • Trojan Hoarse

            Thanks for clarifying……..

          • Spedjones

LOL. Structure fires in LA are hectic. Far more likely to die in one of those than on the hillside. You know not of which you speak, which I suppose is typical of a trogie.

          • rusoviet

You’re so full of it- former Mayor Riordan tried to cut LAFD force because he stated over 70% of the structures (in 1990) don’t burn – i.e. we don’t need these models for festive calendars.

Here’s a quote from one of the over paid govt flunkie firemen ‘Battalion Chief Armando Hogan’ “The fire chief doesn’t want to
do this, but 85 percent of the calls we receive are medical emergency,”
Hogan said. “The bigger thing it will do is keep our advanced life
support ambulances more ready to respond to serious calls.”

What serious calls? Starbucks in your pressed navy blues blocking 7 parking slots – better yet jacking traffic with the hook and ladder and the horns a blaring, whoooooooo….ever actually seen the number of these clowns that does show up for a fire? It’s like the attack of the killer bees – they have nothing to justify their overstaffing – de-unionize all govt. workers.

I have to agree that they are overpaid. Yes, there is potential danger involved with the job but you know that going in.
If they are not overpaid why do 500 people apply every time there’s a job opening?
It’s a sweet gig and they know it.

They double their salaries on OT and retire at full six figure pension for life in their early 50s- talk about sweet!

Hmm, Chuckles, the General called USC prestigious. That’s an unceremonious dump? You might want to check a dictionary…..the General said he settled for CUNY even though mor prestigious place like USC were an option.

WHAT? He didn’t consider fucla? Hawr Hawr

Trojan Hoarse is right (save firemen) – no one ever utters a thing about the film industry or professional athletes. I echo his sentiments on anyone complaining about their coaching salary – if anything the salaries of college instructors is miniscule compared to coaches and their staffs. If a coach or asst. coach assumes said salary is low then either coach a different sport for more money or find a new profession.

i am still laughing!!! whatta bunch of RUBES!!!

  • B.Miller

Is this a long drawn out story that simply ties back to what USC Coaches are making.. AGAIN!
So your writing about the same thing, but trying to put a different spin on it.. I get it.. I’m sure this will not be the last story on how much USC coaches make..

    • Trojan Hoarse

Wolf is totally obsessed with all things financially related to the USC Coaching staff, even remotely……Scottie is a bleeding heart Liberal….if it were up to him, they would all be paid equally……
