Lane Kiffin Says He Will Continue To Call Plays

Here’s a nugget from Lane Kiffin’s media tour in Connecticut. According to this USA Today story, he will keep calling plays this season.

From the article: “One change Kiffin considered but declined to execute was relinquishing play-calling duties amid criticism that his offense had leaned too heavily toward the pass during the season’s final month.

“I thought about it, just because I thought about everything,” Kiffin said. “I tinkered with some things toward the end of the year and stuff. But when I went back to it, I just put everything together and said, well, do you need to manage the team more and not call plays, and then you’re around more? And then I went back to, that’s perception and that happens with losing.”

This same “play-caller” was shut out 6 times in the 3rd quarter last year. What will change? I hope Jack Del Rio will on the top of Mike Rae’s caddies list of new head coaches.

    • L’Angelo Misterioso

They can’t do better than Del Rio ?

    • Ted

I think if I’m southern cal, I’m going after big names. Gruden, Dungy or even someone like Mike Bellotti. He is the one that got the ball rolling at Oregon not Kelly.

      • TrojanFan

Do you actually follow USC football or is it some medical issue, dementia perhaps?

        • Ted

I am a fan of good football..not a homer clown like you.

          • TrojanFan

According to you USC doesn’t play good football, so go troll a site where you’ll find what you’re looking for

          • Ted

So you think SC plays good football under Kiffin?

          • Joe Blow

One bad season. Bet you’ve had many of them at work. If you’d call your own plays, maybe you’d move up to cashier.

Cleaning toilets sounds bad to me, especially after bruinrob has left some fart-art behind

          • TrojanFan

Kiffin is a big link in the chain, but he’s not the whole chain

      • B.Miller

Were a Pro style school.. None of that Oregon bullsh*t

        • Ted

Joey Harrington, Akili Smith all ran pro set offense. I am talking about a winning coach.

    • B.Miller

      Charlie Strong!

I feel this young man should try working as a team with his staff, perhaps have meetings to discuss other options.

But I did think our boys were confused at times last season.

    • Jethro G Sabbath

      Violet,

      What’s your deal?

      • TrojanFan

Just another one of bucket’s numerous handles, along with Ted

    • Ted

Wow finally a coherent, constructive critique…hope the clown doesn’t jump all over this nice lady.

    • Jethro G Sabbath

      Violet,

Are you going to be posting on here in the middle of the night?

  • L’Angelo Misterioso

Another season of disaster looms, what a toll you are Goatsh!t

  • Ted

He doesn’t get that he is a terrible play caller…Even the 13-9 loss to Ucla was because of his play calling…Sarkisian should have called the play after Norm Chow left..but he sulked and pouted and Carroll let Kiffin do it and result was loss to far inferior Ucla at that point. Now Ucla looking comparable if not superior in talent then Southern cal, Blow out looming. Cause Mora is 100% superior in coaching. The evidence is Mora turns over the offense to the OC that he hired…Kiffin is like a spoiled kid at Dennys that insists on ordering when he can’t read!

The ruin blog is only a click away….hint hint hint!!!

  • Helen

I would be very surprised to see Kiffin calling plays this year. Wolfbag – you’ve heard of ‘rope a dope?’ Well Kiffin just reeled one in.

    • TrojanFan

Helen, you’re looking real pale. Please rise from the basement and get some sunshine

      • Joe Blow

She’s having an affair with S Bucket. That would make any female pale.

        • TrojanFan

Bucket will take anything he can get, male or female….ouch!!!

          • Joe Blow

            Human or otherwise!

  • gotroy22

    Say it aint’ so!

  • B.Miller

Well if your job is on the line, it would be best to take your fate in your own hands.. How you coach and call plays this year will all be on you, it wont be anyone else’s fault..
    I CAN ACCEPT THAT!

I would like to see Kiffin incorporate some spread pass (Oklahoma & Oklahoma St) offense into the Pro offense!

    • TrojanFan

      Exactly!…..some good points!

    • marvgoux1

After seeing how having the head coach calling the plays worked last season most sane people would let the OC call the plays and concentrate on managing the game.

      • TrojanFan

How do you explain what happened in 2011, he did all the play calling that season also?

      • B.Miller

Let him dictate his own fate..

  • grave soul

Well, let’s take a second to think about this. Lane Kiffin made a lot of bad coaching calls last season. What will change this season? A lot, at least some people seem to think.

  • David Keeling

If this report is accurate about his playcalling, why did he feel he needed to announce it clear across the Country from where he works? Where’s the manhood here?

    • Trojan Hoarse

It’s Pac-12 media day today, starting at 9am, so I’m sure that this question will be asked again. …11:50am is when Kiffin, Lee and Pullard are scheduled to be grilled. ..
