Adrian Peterson On Matt Leinart Winning Heisman

NFL star Adrian Peterson finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting to Matt Leinart when Peterson was a freshman at Oklahoma. They spent the weekend together in New York City at the Heisman Trophy ceremony and hit various clubs. But Peterson is unhappy nine years later about losing the Heisman race.
“I look at that [Heisman] trophy now and knowing that Matt Leinart has it, with how his career went, I would rather him have it,” Peterson told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune “At least he has something positive to look back on and say, `I won the Heisman.’ I feel good that he has it. Even though I know it should have been mine.”

  1. Too bad Matt beat the crap out of him…and Oklahoma in the NC game. College football is different the Pro. Sorry, Peterson, you weren’t good enough in college.

  2. Perhaps the Heisman voters considered more than just stats – like integrity, humility, and the ability to foster a child out of wedlock.

  3. It could be said the same is true about Reggie Bush and Carson Palmer and others.

But the have the awards, and no one can take them away.

      • Thanks, did I ever hear about that one at my Tuesday Bunco game. I didn’t know he actually gave his back I thought only the school did.

    • Violet,

Are you aware that a frequent poster on here known as “Charlie Bucket” refers to you as an “elderly lady”?

      • LOL. Well I was born in ’57 so i will soon be 57yrs old! I do have a AARP card, so maybe I am elderly.

Thank God I still feel pretty good.

  4. A pretty good attempt at a humble brag, but he should have stopped at “I feel good that he has it.”

  5. For a guy with such a notoriously firm handshake, he’s class-deficient. And yes, as J. Blow states below, he got his hat handed to him in the Orange Bowl that year, which should have been enough to settle all arguments.

  6. Sounds a lot like Joe Theismann’s (who changed the pronunciation of his name from ‘thaysman’ to ‘thysman’ before the 1970 season) needling Rodger Staubach years ago and Staubach’s reply saying he knew how it felt to win The Heismann Trophy.

  7. Leinart also has the championship that year so STFU Peterson. Stick to running smack at Chris Johnson.

  8. Glad Peterson feels good that he has it. because its hanging out with 5 others..
    great post!
