Winners And Losers Of The Week

HUTCH

Winners

Michael Hutchings

Looks pretty comfortable at middle linebacker, which usually chews up true freshmen.

Chad Wheeler

Offensive tackle getting quality work and left and right tackle.

Darreus Rogers

Solidifies spot as No. 3 wide receiver and even more until Marqise Lee returns from injury.

Devon Kennard

After a year off, he is flourishing in new 5-2 formation.

Brice Butler

Looks like transferring to San Diego State paid off after nice debut with Raiders.

J.R. Tavai

No one is talking much about defensive tackle but he’s making plays in training camp.

Losers

McKay Center

It cost $70 million and was state-of-the-art a year ago but the way visitors are talking about Oregon’s new building, it already seems passé.

Tailbacks

D.J. Morgan’s been nearly invisible in training camp and most of the other backs have carried one injury or another during training camp.

Secondary

Ever since Lane Kiffin said they were playing better a few days ago they struggled in practices.

Fans at USC practices

Construction makes USC almost impossible to navigate right now.

  1. Just my thoughts:

Hutchings looks very strong in that photo. I had read he gained a lot of weight, and it looks like the right kind of weight. Good for him that he’s pretty up to speed already.

Good for Wheeler and for USC, if he continues in this vein.

Rogers was always a super prospect, on a par with Agholor, so his performance is not surprising, although good to see.

Butler would have been foolish not to transfer, as would any back-up who not that inferior to a starter in the same recruitment class, or a later one (including the loser of the QB battle).

Scott’s right that Tavai does tend to get overlooked in the media briefings and coverage.

  2. No mention of The Nooch being a winner for springing Junior Pomee? If The Nooch can get Junior off the hook after being caught passed out in the alley behind the Phi Psi house then everyone has a get out of jail free card.

  3. Anyone know how Oregon (and other Football programs)overcoming this issue? Are both genders using these facilities?….(Title IX is violated if a community builds a state-of-the-art field and locker facilities for males, but requires female athletes to share a field owned by a local community center. In this example, quality of facilities is far from equitable, and Title IX is violated)

  4. Loser:

    Charlie Bucket

He added three new user names this week

    (Dementia is some nasty stuff)

  5. Winner: the wolfman!! on account of his expose’, the NCAA stopped selling athletes autographs, including Dirty Reggie’s!!

    way to TESTIFY, wolfman!!!

  6. Winner: The KO Kid rehabilitation tour continues with appearances on all the ESPN shows and the Craig Ferguson show.
