Darreus Rogers Sews Up No. 3 Wide Receiver Spot

Freshman wide receiver Darreus Rogers made several big plays in the scrimmage, where he simply grabbed the ball away from USC cornerbacks, including a long pass down the sideline and his 3-yard touchdown reception.

Whatever else is uncertain about the team, the No. 3 receiver spot is not. He might even be pushing to start at this rate.

“Things are slowing down for me, I’m feeling comfortable,” Rogers said.

  1. Where does USC get these impact freshman receivers? You would think that Woods leaving early would create a void, but USC looks to better at WR than last year!

    • I think you’re disrespectful of Robert Woods. It wasn’t his fault that 40%+ of the passes went to Lee. I’m sure Woods lost some focus when he wasn’t targeted a lot. That guy is talented and has his head screwed on straight. Watch him in Buffalo this year!

From another POV, a pretty savvy ex-pro scout rated Rogers slightly higher than Agholor, so Rogers’s success is not surprising. Agholor is excellent, as Farmer would be if his body didn’t betray him. If Mitchell’s knee doesn’t undermine him, he will be very good, too. In his HS games against the better teams, no one could control him. He’s bright and focused as well.

After a succession of strong college QBs and WRs, USC has in fact become Wide Receiver U. If you’re a top WR, and you don’t seriously consider USC, you’re not being very smart.

      • No disrespect intended. I think Woods is USC’s best receiver ever and the pair Woods/Lee was the best in college football last year. If only the OL could have put their jockstraps on…

  2. Agholor and Lee better watch out because this kid is runnin ang gunning for the number one spot!

  3. That’s fantastic that Troy has quality guys who can catch the ball.

Now all SC needs is someone who can accurately throw it to them.
