USC Morning Buzz

Wide receiver Marqise Lee spoke to the media for the first time since his injury and offered opinions on a variety of topics and quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Max Wittek addressed the public perception that Kessler should be the quarterback. Story here

“I hate reading about myself. I want to stay away from that,” Kessler said.

Here is the key quote/observation as to Wittek struggled and Kessler shined: “the fact the entire offense struggled against the first-team defense
was a mitigating factor. Kessler faced the second-team defense for most
of the scrimmage.” Give either QB a complete first string offense against the second string D and both will look like Heisman winners. The fact that the D as a whole is playing in so much better should get all us Rah Rahs excited. Kiffin should make a decision by Wednesday night when they go into game prep mode. We don’t want another ’09 Aaron Corp debacle.
By the way anybody notice the countdown to kickoff on the football page on the athletic dept web site is 4 hours off!

Though Kessler has done well during (some) practices Im not sure that he is better than Wittek. Kessler is completely unproven in actual game situations. Wittek has shown flashes of brilliance but he needs to build his confidence up. I think the only way to do that is if Wittek gets more real game experience. Can’t Kiff just play them both at least during the first game. What are the pros and cons of doing that really?

Dear Captain RAH RAH….”flashes of Brilliance”? BAMBI replaced BARFY in the UCLA game and played out the rest of the season. Did you watch the end of the season unfold? Wittek may have been a very good High School QB, the problem is he still plays like he’s in high school.
