A New Worry For Lane Kiffin

Last night’s loss was so embarassing/stunning that it also jarred the players. This presents a new challenge for Lane Kiffin because he now will need to keep players from going their own way.

Once adversity hits a program, it is natural for some players to start worrying more about their NFL prospects. Wins and losses become insignificant. Players look out for themselves.

That is going to be a challenge for Lane Kiffin after a loss nearly no one expected.

“That is going to be a challenge for Lane Kiffin after a loss nearly no one expected.”

After that showing in Hawaii, I can’t say I was surprised that we lost. In fact, I was expecting this to be a close game. We played pretty much the same as we did against Hawaii. WSU is just a better team.

  • betomas

CLK lost the team a long time ago. There’s a cancer growing in the team and these lackluster performances are simply a symptom. Absolutely disgusted.

    • Joe Blow

      Starts with Haden.

      • marvgoux1

You saw this coming a long time ago…you predicted this.

        • Joe Blow

Nothing to gloat about. And to think this clown is getting $2M a year to be AD. What a joke.

          • B.Miller

Whats the solution though? Who would you rather see at AD?
            Bring Garrett back?

          • Joe Blow

Even though MG was 100 times the AD Haden is, it would never work. We need to do a search for a guy in his 40s-early 50s that is a Sr. AD at a Top 50 D I school. But wait…..we can’t. Max is in love with Patty boy and there’s a new Broadway production underway in the Drama Dept.

      Call Dr T Bone!

  • NEWSFLASH!! take a knee wolfman, i GOT THIS!!!

Southern Cal players have called a “no coaches” meeting for today!!!

this CONFIRMS that Kiff has LOST THIS TEAM!!!

it is the players saying: “our coaches are in totally shell-shocked…it’s up to us to fix this!!!”

wolfman, YOU CALLED THIS ONE!!! GREAT READ, wolfman, in fact, you were DEAD ON with this post!!!

  • Capt Charles R

That is why, if USC could find a replacement, Kiffin needs to be fired now. USC still has the talent, just not the leadership! It’s going to be a long season.

    • marvgoux1

Let the DC be the interim head coach and begin the search now.

  • one point missed is the fact that the Cougs toned down their offensive plan vs what they did vs Audburn…but why?
simple: Leach was the look on in the eyes of the Southern Cal QB’s and decided to go “conservative” becuase he knew Southern Cal would not put up many points. so he only puts up the ball 30 times when most expected he would put it up 60+….did you notice all the dive plays they ran into the line???
and now they play a fired up Boston College team that is 2-0 and smells blood in the water!!!!
    my Prediction: more PAAAAAAAAAAIN !!!!!!!!
so much for the TUNE UP games!!!!

    • TrojanFan

Get your glasses checked, you are fucing cluless.

He was protecting his QB from getting killed, their line couldn’t handle the pass rush.

Once again, lack of any football IQ, pathetic!

Third finger in, sit and spin!….how’s that for a TUNE UP…..ouch!

      • Joe Blow

How true. bucket is mad that his wife went down faster than the SC offense.

      • Random_acct

No doubt Leach was protecting his QB, but he also realized that USC’s game plan to wait for WSU mistakes (INTs, for example) would likely work. Thus, he decided to minimize risk and play a defensive battle. It worked out pretty well.

        • TrojanFan

Dude, did you just blow in from left field?
          Another bucket disciple!

          • Random_acct

            Does it matter dude?

  • Dr. Paul

First crack in the levee: The USC Trojans were upset by Washington State on Saturday night, and to make matters worse, they lost an ESPN 300 recruit, as four-star defensive tackle Tashon Smallwood (Fresno, Calif./Central) said he has decommitted. Pat, this is about way more than a dismal season this year! You don’t have to be a Rhodes Scholar to do the “Right” thing and do it tomorrow!

  • Danny

Too soon to be calling for Kiffin’s head. Its one loss. IMHO the earliest to even start this kind of talk is after USC Notre Dame.

    • marvgoux1

Too early? The season is over the first weekend in September, Danny Boy. Perhaps you haven’t hear that we switched to the BCS system in 1998. We were eliminated yesterday.

      • Danny

Wow, so much that is wrong with this post

        1) The Trojans lost one game (ONE!), and all the so-called fans jump off the bandwagon. I guess it doesn’t take much for some to call themselves a Trojan fan.

        2) Yes, I know about the BCS system but clearly you do not.

        3) Calling me Danny Boy is about the lamest thing I’ve heard in a while.

Oh wait, there was something even more lame. Someone actually thought a team ranked outside the top 20 has a legitimate chance of going to BCS game. The Trojans were eliminated from the BCS games even before the season started.

Even before the season started, the most realistic bowl the Trojans for something like the Sun Bowl.

  • John Ashby

If it is true that this mess is not Kiffen’s fault, and he’s doing the best he can with two lousy quarterbacks, then….please tell me, whose fault is it that we don’t have a better quarterback?

  • Golden Trojan

The Pete Carroll players are gone. This is Kiffin’s team, he recruited them all. This is his offense, he’s supposed to be the offensive guru, these are his QBs. He could not get a QB and coach him up. When they don’t have a QB that can complete a pass up field you have no passing game. They do have a defensive coaching staff that turned that around and they have a running game. Get a QB coach and Offensive Coord. and next year they will get better. Wait isn’t that Kiffin’s job?! Kiffin’s got to go, but this season is lost. At best they win 4 more games.

    • Tom Oday

I think there are 15-16 scholie players still on the roster that committed to Carroll. Most of them are starters.

  • john wolcott

SC is not going to fire Kiffin before the season is over, so back off from that thought.

So what to do now?– Better settle on one quarterback and let him develop– fast.

    • marvgoux1

Why not? The fired the drunk basketball coach during the season.

  • USConqueror1

Dude what a bunch of whiners not winners!! This is just THE SECOND GAME o fthe season! There is still a whole season of footsball to be played. Yes our offense was anemic but hold yourhorses before you start calling for everyone’s heads.
Pat H, Kiff and Pendergrast need to have a serious meeting to square away some things and to come out strong against BC The players are already having their own no coaches meeting today and only good will come from that. Just relax and hold your ponies people.

    • sc 4 sc

This may be the 2nd game of the season, but it’s not the beginning of a trend! It’s the CONTINUATION of a trend that began last season, with ucla, nd, and Georgia Tech being the icing on the cake! Kiffin should have been fired after the debacle in the Sun Bowl! How fitting that the bookstore is selling “Stay Calm and Fight On” memorabilia. Think they knew something was amiss?

Haden: Issue Slow Lane his walking papers and flip a coin to decide which assistant coach will replace him.

Last thing: the problem with the player’s meeting is that it usually signals the team leaders will bring the team together. The only problem is Slow Lane killed the team leadership by not naming a full-time qb! Which should have been done ASAP in the spring after the altercation in the locker room after the Sun Bowl!

      I need a drink! And a sedative.

    • marvgoux1

Hey Einstein the season is over, Fire Kiffin, install Pendergast as the interim Head Coach and begin the search for a new competent head coach.

      • USConqueror1

WTF?? There are still 11 or more games left. Count them Tesla. Your weird, man. Pendergast as interim head coach? Somebody’s set is tripping.

  • Joe Blow

Give Kiff a break. Sanctions, reduction in scholarships, dad trying to install
NFL defenses, too much info on the Denny’s menu, 2 lousy QBs, injuries, and
having to deal with Wolf. Heck, he should retire, get a job as an AD, where he
could sit on his rear, participate in the university’s drama program, collect a
fat paycheck and hire his loser pals to do all the dirty work. Oh, and play
golf. As I’ve posted earlier, SC athletics are going down faster than bucket’s

    • SpiketheBruin

Lame excuses, whiner excuses. In case you missed Kiffy’s latest epic debacle: W. State 10 – Joey’s team 7. You said it best in an earlier post: “We Suck.”

      • Joe Blow

Fu A h o l e. Keep this in mind, you ain’t done nothing yet. Kool Aid is great.
BTW, thanks. It’s horrible. I have 3 myself. His parents need all the support they can get. ALL SC hopes and prays his parents can manage to go through this terrible accident.

      • TrojanFan

Go help bucket change is diaper, betomas is tired of the mess!

        • ThaiMex

Don’t You EVER get tired of being an AZZZZZZ Clown?
          fit UN torgan!

          • TrojanFan

That’s a question you should be asking yourself. You live a life of denial

            Dementia is some nasty stuff!

  • EncinitasBruin

Stick with Kessler, let the guy chuck the rock, and allow his elite receivers to make some great grabs. Otherwise, teams are just going to put 8 in the box to stuff the run.
