USC Morning Buzz

FIRE.KIFFINHere is my analysis of Lane Kiffin’s playcalling and the Trojans’ problems last night against Washington State.

“(The fans) were most upset with an anemic offensive performance engineered by someone who refused to give up playcalling duties following last season. After two games, USC’s offense is pathetic and Kiffin’s future seems tenuous.” Full story here

  1. It’s gonna get worse. The BC game is a toss up, Utah State is a loss, ASU, AZ, UCLA, ND, Stanford are losses. Ore St is probably a loss, same with Utah. He might be able to beat Kal and Col, but it’s Kiffin so probably not.

  2. From Carson Palmer to Matt Barkley, the era of QBU is over at USC. We are now left with Aaron Corp/Mitch Mustain Part 2. The QB controversy is over, neither one of these guys can play. The only pass they can complete is a bubble screen. How is it we have no QB? The inability to recruit, coach and prepare players – Lane Kiffin. The 2013 season is over and hopefully the Lane Kiffin era as well. See you next year!

  3. Stick to trolling, Scott. Your lack of football knowledge shows every time you try to say what’s wrong with SC.

Yes..playcalling can be much better. However, to think you can simply dial up plays like you’re playing Madden on xbox is far from reality.

Right now, the offense is lacking UP FRONT. Kiffin can’t call deep passes because his QBs end up on their backs. On run plays, both Davis and Madden don’t have the field vision like Silas Redd. This is on Kiffin for not emphasizing the run in both camps.

MY solution? Just win SEC-style where it would be ugly. Don’t ask your QB to do much except to limit their mistakes. See Baltimore Ravens 2000 and Tampa 2002. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson were complete crap. Grind the ball out. This defense should be good enough to win the majority of games.

    • The hard truth is that without Barkley last year, the Trojans would have had a losing season and no Sun Bowl–he made up for a lot of Kiffin’s offensive ineptitude by being able to get balls to Woods, Lee, and Agololar. This year is USC without Barkley. The math is simple.

      • It’s actually WORSE. It’s 2012 USC without Barkley, Woods, Redd, Holmes, and McNeal.

All those positions mentioned have downgraded — some of them big time.

  4. At one point last night in the first half, there was a series where it seemed like Kiffin called the same exact unsuccessful play three times in a row, and on the third try, a middle-aged woman in front of me started yelling with exasperation and anguish, “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” I had to laugh because it just summed up the whole situation. It was like we’d all bought tickets to go to a hospital and watch a doctor botch a surgery, killing the patient right in front of us.

And yet, our friend in charge of procuring our tickets somehow got us the worst tickets we’ve ever had, for this year of all years. But it looks like pretty soon the stands will be empty, and we’ll all get to sit wherever we please.

    • What section is this? We moved near the 50 yard line (student section side)..

It never dawned on my the we can lose the game until the 4th quarter!

      • We were in Section 5, where everybody was on the same grumpy wavelength. No love for Kiffin up there.

        • Is that guy Betomas? Why another screen name?

I have a feeling Bucket has never been to the Rose Bowl, either!

    • That analogy is most appropriate. Except I’d add that it felt like I was having surgery because it was so painful to watch. With play like this I may not go to any games this season and sell my tix.

  5. Both Wittek and Kessler had the “deer in the headlights” look both during and after the game which is very troubling. The fact that their coach had the same look all night tells me this train has come off the tracks. KUDOS to Pendergast and the defense….outstanding.

  6. My…how things have changed…Where’d all the RAH RAH’s go? T-fail…don’t let us down…come on…say something retarded. I know you’ve got it in you…you’ve proven it over 3,000 times. FamilyGuy…when your finished with your “ADULT TIME” (watching porn)…maybe you could chime in with some more b.s. about “YOUR 75 being better than…..Hawaii’s 85”! Nubsie…don’t worry…mono and own’s are headed over to your place in Stanton, with a whole jar of those Pickled Pigs Feet you like so much!
5 & 8 is not looking real good right now. It might be a stretch. Oh well,….Water Polo Season is just around the corner!

#25 to UN in TWO WEEKS?????? No wonder you guys are all arrogant.
    fit UN torgans!

  7. Not one slant pass. A couple of outs for completions. One play action pass roll out. In order to score you need to throw DOWNFIELD. Kiffen is scared to death and now his QB’s are also.

      • I’m sorry, but you’re an idiot. The only way these QB’s are going to get better is if you let them throw down the field. Give them some confidence. So what if they get intercepted? Its better than having it go 70 yds the other way on a bubble screen.

        • sweetheart, did you see the pick 6? how many more of those did you want last night? you’re worse than lane. even he knew that keeping the game close and hoping for a chance to win late was the only option. <3

          • also, there is no way these QBs are getting better. they are awful and will continue to be awful until Browne takes over next year. <3

          • Remind me again, what was the playcall on the pick-6? Oh, thats right, a horizontal pass to the sideline. The same play that was called 90% last night. At least when you throw downfield, players have a chance to tackle the defender if it’s intercepted.

          • done arguing you. I hope these clowns get a chance to make some vertical throws next game, one b/c it will be great comedy and two so you’ll crawl back into your ignorant cave and stfu.

  8. You guys are shooting the messenger (Wolfie). Even the great Jim Murray wouldn’t be able to slap enough lipstick on this pig to make it look pretty.

  9. There are True & Redshirt Freshman QB’s across the country being productive. Yet both Kessler & Wittek, who have been in the program two full years going on #3 are being coddled by Kiffin. Lack of Talent ? Lack of Coaching? Or my long standing belief, USC’s Offense prepares QB’s well for the NFL but does not lend itself to a quick learning curve like the Read Option or similar Vanilla Styles.

  10. Everyone wants to blame the QB’s but in actuality.. you could have put the best QB in that offensive scheme and the same thing would happen. The game plan and offense scheme for this game was horrific. The O-Line was terrible on pass plays, and the QB/WR timing is off (because Kiffin didnt want to pick a QB)
