Remember The Name James Franklin

Back in July, I wrote a post about Vanderbilt coach James Franklin being a possible candidate if USC made a coaching change. With everyone in such a sour mood following the Washington State game, seems like a good time to remember he would be a likely candidate.

  1. Way to think big. Open the check book. $6M, 5 year contract for a Jeff Fisher, John Gruden, Jack Del Rio.

  2. I’d like to see Haden hire Mark Dantonio from MSU. He’s a brilliant coach who’s quite creative and plays an exciting brand of football. He’s Jim Harbaugh without the attitude.

  3. No thanks … James Franklin reminds me too much of Jethro Franklin , another one of Pete Carroll’s coaching weed. Besides he isn’t getting it done at USC. Get JDR and end all this garbage. No one who even knows Pete Carroll had better get this job ! from Goat Kiffin, Steve Suckisian, Rockhead Seto etc etc

  4. You will need to follow the most recent SC trend and hire a coach with a hot wife. Wolfie, please track down photos of Franklin’s wife to see if she meets the standards set by Enfield and Kiffin.

    • Quote from Franklin: “I’ve been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I’ve seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she’s a D-I recruit (one of the nation’s best-of-the-best), then you got a chance to get hired. That’s part of the deal.”

      Sounds like he’s on board.

  5. No one in a decent job is leaving to come to USC i.e. Baylor, MI St., Vanderbilt, why would they? The pressure elsewhere is minimal compared to USC and all know it.

Go with an assistant John McKay or someone really hungry for another chance – Pete Carroll or maybe a coach from a FBS II school – kid at ND St or Eastern WA or No. IA.

Amusing if someone emerges in the SEC who coaches the way Chip Kelley did @ OR and is doing with the Eagles – Saban swears that uptempo wears players out – love to see someone force Saban to actually fear an in-conference opponent instead of just avoiding them (cheap OOC)

  6. PC showed coaches in college & the pros that USC can bring in talent from anywhere in the Country. USC can pay the big bucks similar to what some pro coaches are getting and pay assistants top pay also. If Niklas & Haden will get serious enough about football and all that a winning program will bring, including paying for all the renovations of the coliseum and possibly a venue replacing the sports arena next door.

  7. how about Dino Babers of Eastern Illinois, former DC of Baylor? Last year Baylor Defense put up more points on Defense then southern call offense this year! Seriously, he is a good coach.

  8. USC can pretty much get any Coach they want with the exception of Nick Saben. They do not and should not take a chance on a untested Assistant Coach other then Kennedy Pola but that won’t happen because it would make too much sense. James Franklin, Charlie Strong or Jack Del Rio would be an excellent choice because of their Head Coaching experience .

  9. Although I admire his passion I doubt it..SC needs TOP Name coaching talent, not bottom to middle of the pack in the SEC Coaching talent.

CHARLIE STRONG – Makes a splash!
Bobby Petrino – Makes a splash!
Chris Petersen – Makes a splash!
Jeff Fisher – Makes a splash!
Jack Del Rio – Makes a splash!
I would even agree with Clancy Pendergast, if he brought in a top tier OC!
