Penn State, Houston, Texas Tech, Cal and Florida State Using Freshmen QBs Without Fear

Does USC really need to be conservative with first-year quarterbacks Cody Kessler and Max Wittek? Three of the nation’s top seven quarterbacks in passing yards per game are freshmen. One of those is a walk-on!

Look at freshmen numbers:

Jared Goff, true freshman, Cal, 72-115, 935 yards, 4 TDs, 3 Int., 137.2 rating

Christian Hackenberg, true freshman, Penn State, 45-64, 589 yards, 3 TDs, 3 Int, 153.7 rating

Jameis Winston, redshirt freshman, Florida State, 25-27, 356 yards, 4 TDs, 0 Int, 252.2 rating
John O’Korn, true freshman, Houston, 34-46, 340 yards, 3 TDs, 0 Int, 157.5 rating
Baker Mayfield, walk-on true freshman, Texas Tech, 64-90, 780 yards, 7 TDs, 0 Int, 169.6 rating

  1. And Alabama, Mississippi State, and Tennessee could be in deep do-do according to Yahoo. Slap on the wrist time again.

    • QB psyches are very fragile- hope he can survive the boos and loses without losing his confidence. Look what happened to Leinart in the pros.

  2. His system doesn’t seem conducive to plugging in new QBs. Hard to believe this guy was considered an offensive wiz-kid. Look at the Eagles on Monday night.

  3. Wolf, That’s not fair.. All those schools have better coaching than USC, better play calling, and better Offense Schemes..

We have 2 QB’s that have been in the Kiffin offense for 3 years, and cant succeed all because of LAME KIFFIN!

  4. I disagree. Freshmen in a sophisticated pro style system need time. Even Kessler is still working on his reads and he has been the system for 2 or more years.
