What Do Lane Kiffin And Paul Hackett Have In Common?

BOBB

I used to joke when Paul Hackett coached USC that the Trojans would be better off with a mannequin on the sideline because at least the mannequin would not hurt the team.

The past two weeks are a good example of why the mannequin theory holds up for Lane Kiffin. USC ran a neutral game plan with great success against Boston College. Nothing daring or revolutionary. Just passing to different receivers and mixing in some deep passes and no bubble screens.

But against Washington State, Kiffin tried to impose his will on the game and manipulate the outcome by running out the clock and throwing behind the line of scrimmage. If a mannequin coached USC in that game, the Trojans would have won.

  1. Is it Monday morning?……let the Monday morning “quarterbacking” begin……mannequin theory?… How fascinating…. so do you have any other clever and noteworthy “theories”, Scottie?……and are you “joking” now, as you did when Paul Hackett coached here?….

  2. You cry when the team loses. You cry more when they win. You may have a serious issue. Or a crush on Kiff. You love him so much that its eating you up. Get over it Wolf.

  3. The only thing Paul Hackett and Lane Kiffin have in common is that they both covered by the Kardashian of USC beat writers.

  4. Wolfie = Jason Quick

Read the drama surrounding the Oregon Ducks and the absence of their TE, Colt Lyerla, from their game last weekend against Tennessee due to “circumstances”, as stated by their head coach, Mark Helfrich……dude felt as if he was thrown under the bus by Helfrich for not clearly stating that he was sick and that was why he missed the game…..Beat reporter Quick made a big deal about this cryptic “cover up”, just like Wolfie would have….

      • C’mon…. please don’t be so naive ….this isn’t a freedom of speech issue, and you know it…..you know exactly what I’m talking about…..

      • Mr. Hoarse apparently believes a beat writer is employed by the university to write fluffy PR pieces.

        • Negative on that one, Mr. Azhole….I don’t need the fluffy PR pieces, as you claim….but I also don’t need the opposite end of the spectrum either, which is what Wolf represents….Balanced reporting of actual news, yes… but constant inflammatory, self serving, yellow journalism?…well, I guess people like you eagerly swallow the bait every time…..you don’t think that there is any bias in the media and the way they report the news?…. CNN vs FOX News?….. seriously?…..

  5. SC should have a Kiffin bobblehead, except it would be holding a Denny’s menu in front of it’s face

  6. What do you guys think the over/under is for how many Kiffin blogs Wolf does this week?

I have him at 3 per day.. We’re already at 2 on this Monday after a WIN. That’s 18 come game day…

  7. They have lots in common, first off they are both know it all’s when in all actuality they don’t know “Jack” . I remember Ed Orgeron wanted to recruit future All American Mike Patterson and Paul Hackett told him not to because he was too short….Lol !! So when Pete Carroll was hired he asked Orgeron if Patterson could play…Period !! And that’s all She wrote. Lane Kifiin’s Cockyness will eventually get the best of him, it’s just a matter of time.

    • Actually, The ONE thing Kiffin is good at is as a talent evaluator. Hackett was a TERRIBLE talent evalutor. With the exception of Kennard, the starting D are his recruits, and the entire front seven looks NFL bound.

Hard to say about the offense, since it is handicapped by Kiffin’s scheming. Tre Madden is a revelation at RB and the TEs look NFL bound. THe WRs look good, too. QBs are who they are. The OL is weak, but the entire right side of the line are PC/Brennan Carroll recruits, and while Martinez might get some looks, I don’t think Graf gets drafted. The left side is young needs to get stronger. Walker has a body, if only he had a head.

Kiffin gets in trouble when he “thinks.” Get rid of the Mike Martz vertical game with its hot reads, run a simple play action offense with roll outs and multiple reads and you win eight games this year.

      • Mike Martz vertical game? Like the one that failed to throw the ball ten yards beyond the line of scrimmage (with the exception of the duck that Wittek tossed up that was picked/overturned due to PI)?

What “vertical” game has this team been displaying? I’d love to see the greatest show on turn reincarnated out here. This is more like three yards and a cloud of dust (via bubble screens).

Totally agree with you on rollouts though. Especially with the nimble-footed Kessler out there. He may not be Manziel or even Hundley with his feet, but Kessler knows how to move and designed rollouts are perfect for buying more time and for setting yourself up for a run/pass option. The naked bootleg VS. Wazzu was the only good call of the game by Kiffin.

    • You keep writing post like this and you’ll get labeled as Charles Buckett or some other bRUIN troll.
