Pat Haden Meets With NCAA On Scholarship Reductions

USC athletic director Pat Haden was at NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis this week when the Penn State decision was announced and said he provided suggestions to the Trojans’ scholarship crisis.

“During our meetings with the NCAA’s leaders over the last two days, we discussed enforcement and sanction issues impacting both the NCAA membership at large and USC specifically.

“We proposed creative ‘outside the box’ solutions to the scholarship issues resulting from the injuries and transfers experienced by our football team over the past three seasons.  After candid discussions, the NCAA asked us to provide additional information and indicated it would study our suggestions. Because time is of the essence regarding these issues, we have asked for the NCAA’s response as soon as practical.”

  1. While Scottie was drooling over scholarship reductions RIPSIT scoops him with real news.

    PS: Thank you Pat Haden.

    • Yet you are here. Why is that? Are you paid by the athletic department to make excuses and attack critics? And you have the nerve to thank Pat Haden for doing what he should have done 3 years ago?

      • 22, go easy. She was Pat’s leading lady in the last Broadway Production at SC. (I think she gave him a kiss or 2)

      • I’ll defend anyone who blasts Wolf. If Helen is an SC athletic dept plant, does that make you one of Scooter’s alter egos? Dude deserves to get called out for being terrible.

And I’m here because the stupid OCR makes you subscribe to read their articles now. When Lev was running the show over there and you could read and comment at will, the OCR blog was where you could find most of the people who who were looking for a real scoop.

        • So you are a cheapskate but come here even though Scott is terrible because you can’t afford anything else?

          • I’m not paying OCR a bunch of money just to read 0.0001% of their content. I don’t even live in LA, so the OCR access is worthless to me aside from USC coverage – and they don’t have Lev covering his alma mater anymore.

Either way, that doesn’t excuse Scott’s putridity. It’s like he tries to be bad. Long time readers know what I’m talking about. Trust me, I go to many other places for USC coverage, this is just a small percentage of it… I’m just saying that I wish that small percentage was a little better than it is – much like Kiffin’s offense.

    • RIPSIT? I prefer “the real Scott” Schrader’s posts.

While Wolf is spending hours to support a grudge, Schrader actually posts recruiting updates and player quotes OUTSIDE of the press conferences.

  2. Thank God we have a Bull dog for an AD. WOW. Way to go Patty. Can’t wait for the “practical” timing of the response. Did Job Hopper help craft the language?

  3. Glad to see Haden is trying to get some relief. The fact that Penn St gets a break and SC does not shows how corrupt the NCAA is!

    • or alternatively how corrupt SC is – it can’t even do better than a bunch of child molesters!

          • Man oh man Blow…you are hilarious! What’s next? Jokes about my Mama or knock-knock jokes? You are on fire.

          • Joey Latent never completed elementary school. The siren of big bucks to be had on the street was too hard to resist.

          • Hey Bruin rob – speaking of going to school…didn’t you go to a JC and then San Bernadino State, that pillar of higher education in the IE. Oh that’s right, you are 5’6″ aren’t you. That’s what dating page said on the dating website you were trying to catch some strange on. Big talk, no action – Bruin Rob is back!!

        • I heard you were once booked in county jail for wearing dirty underpants over head while you tricker-treating. Is it true?

        • Joe Blow vs The Greatest Coach of the Twentieth Century, as voted by ESPN and SI. Giggles.

          • Giggles? Isn’t that your mom’s name? She told me that what she did every time she gave you a bath.

        • The JOHN R. WOODEN award (College Basketballs version of The HEISMAN) is named after the GREATEST BASKETBALL COACH EVER. It is awarded to the OUTSTANDING College Basketball Player every year. How many football awards are named after any of your former head coaches?
          That’s RIGHT…..NONE!!!! (mercy nurse)

          fit UN!

          • Woodie was filthy. Nellie Bell had the floor named after her because she was always on her BACK.

        • I don’t know about any abortions, but I know a lot former SUC Football players are felons, dead from alcohol fueled, high-speed auto accidents, NFL busts, lousy sports commentators with atrocious diction, big-mouth prognosticators, cheaters, arrogant and a legend in his own mind AD now a Jr. college AD in BF Texas. I wonder what OJ’s doing now. Probably being stripped searched at this very moment. I bet Joey Latent wants to watch. Kiffy on Mickey.

          • This guy is wacked out. Doesn’t (conveniently) remember Papa Sam. Bet he remembers St. John though. A troll with lot’s of pent up, latent frustrations. Probably got pissed on by a good looking USC gal and had to settle for a bimbo from the other side of town. I think Bruin Rob, The San Bernardino flash is back!!

    • I don’t know about being corrupt but certainly if they were judged by their own standards, they would be hit with sanctions “Lack of Institutional Control”

  4. I dont think sanctions are the reason for the poor performances. I think Kiffin’s lack of leadership with the coaches and players is the main reason. As for the NCAA, they are a bigger joke then even Kiffin.

  5. lets face it, the ncaa does not like usc. ohio state, slap on the wrist, penn state, reduction in sanctions… at the end of the day, what happened with reggie bush was nothing compared to those incidents. ok. state will get sentenced to “no desert” after dinner, Miami, a time out. I wish the ncaa could get exposed for being biased in favor of east coast athletics. what they did to sc had to be personal.

  6. If the NCAA does the right thing and gives Southern Cal it’s scholarships back, the excuse next year would be “we just got our scholarships back, we are young etc…” The answer is to replace Kiffin! Am I alone in this opinion?

    • If we are terrible this year(most likely scenario) and look for new a new coach, then the new coach will essentially have about 28-29 scholarships to dole out(if we get them all back). Can’t hurt.

In the short term, if we lose the Az St game(most likely scenario) then how long before Wolf attributes the anemic offensive performance(most likely scenario) to Kiff being distracted by the thought of getting scholarships back?

    • The whole point is that scholarship reductions affect you down the road, not to mention reducing sanctions now has basically no effect whatsoever on the trajectory of the team, which will likely move on without kiff. Less scholarships means you can’t miss with recruits, like we’ve said before, and made it so scholarships were tight for guys like Kylie Fitts.

  7. OH ANOTHER SCHOLARSHIP REDUCTION WRITE UP BY SCOTT WOLF…
    GO FIGURE!
Wolf you sure do beat the SH*T out of a story don’t you.

  8. SO, the PROUD trOXans are so beat up after one loss, they are crawling on their bellies to beg the NCAA for MERCY???

    HAWR-HAAAAAAWR!!!

ugh i like the arrogant trOXans better!!

ol’ Petey would say stick it!! and keep winning no matter what!!

Kiff and Haden = NO GUTS!!

“oh PLEASE have MERCY on us….just like you showed Molester U!!!” (sniffle)

    • You know t@pette you’re the pathetic little man who is too young to have any idea of the history of this rivalry save your diarrhea mouth going on and on with nothing of interest to anyone but you – go on – I know all see your ‘Bill Ayers’ logo and skip reading anything below it.

I replied because I think you need some ‘notice’ as all pests do

  9. Bruin fans suffered through a dozen years of mediocrity because of sub-par coaches like Kiffin (Dorrell and Neuheisel). Did you guys actually think your run of dominance over UCLA would never end? Unrealistic, considering the modern series (since ’80) is nearly tied. Until Kiffin is fired, SC will remain a mediocre, second-level Pac-12 program, and UCLA will continue to out-recruit the Trojans–sanctions or no sanctions.

    • Ah is that when you were born (1980)? I get the inferiority complex after all ask Keith Jackson the best game he ever saw and it’s the one that for UCLA fans stands alone in terms of angst kind of like Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS Championship for LAA fans – yeah the 1967 USC 21 – UCLA 20 game.

Now go away little man and let us all know how good it feels to have some relevance because you won a game last year.

      • I was at that game. Broke my heart. Zenon Andrusyshyn (spelling?) with the golden shoe had the extra point blocked and OJ had his first experience at slashing running through and around the Bruin D. UCLA came into the game as #1 and SC was #2 before the game. Much better rivalry when both schools are relevant.

      • And the angst for Trojan fans would be in 1965 when Beban threw 2 TD passes in the last few minutes for the 20-16 win. Remember that one rusoviet?

        • I was at both the 1965 & 1966 debacles – The two bombs amd onside kick to Altenberg and Farmer and then Norman Dow off the bench on 1966.

All go on about Red Sanders but for me the finest coach UCLA ever had was Tommy Prothro – a truly good guy.

He and McKay had no love for each other which was a shame as they were both cut from the same cloth – the compulsion to win!

I honestly believe the 1967 for Prothro was too much for him to swallow and he finally bailed after 1969 for the Rams.

          • That was when the rivalry was at its best. After that, John Robinson did well in his 1st go round. Then there were 2 decades of so-so Trojan football that people here seem to forget. Garrett was about to get fired and stumbles into his 5th choice in Pete Carroll and SC has another run, but it comes with some baggage and some baggage fees. People act as if SC can just get to that level again by firing Kiffin and snapping their fingers. Wasn’t so easy the first time. LIke catching lightning in a bottle. I, for one, would like to see two excellent teams battling it out for the Rose Bowl again.

          • Didn’t know some of the folks here go that far back.

I haven’t witnessed the pre-Rose Bowl time when UCLA shared the Coliseum.

I can’t imagine how tailgating went during a UCLA “home game” when the USC campus was next door.

          • I was there as a kid with my dad. It was quite a spectacle in the 70s, trading weekends at the Coliseum. SC students kept to themselves and respected UCLA’s home game rights, and vice versa.

          • Always great to have multiple generations stay loyal to one alma mater. I would think UCLA was more spirited then because times were different.

Today, even my UCLA buddies complain about the “I don’t care about sports” mentality of many of the students.

          • I absolutely agree with you 110%. His team stunned Mighty Mich. State 10 to 6 at the 63 Rose Bowl. What a revelation. I was born in Michigan, and was broke for a month or so from paying off my loser bets. From that point on, I have always been a Bruin Fan and proud of it.

          • Actually it was 14-12. 2 pt. conversion stopped as Bob Apisa a 230lb RB from Mich. State was flattened by Bob Stiles of UCLA as he was about to tie the game. Stiles knocked himself out on the tackle.

      • Comrade, I saw the game live. It still burns in my brain. Listen up now. SCU didn’t win the game, The Bruin FG kicker Zenon A. shanked a PAT and missed two chip FG’s. The Bruins lost that game on mistakes, SUC didn’t win just because of O.J. the SUC felon.

        • Sorry SUC. No “iffin this and iffin that” per Cadre. Losing a game on mistakes is usually how it’s done.

          • Point taken. But you could say GT waxed SUC, but in reality the Goat’s offense tactics were the reason SUC lost.

        • Yeah sounds like all selective memories that attempt to conceal angst – you’re really skilled at what you ‘saw’ and what was reported.

        • I was at the game as well butt wipe. The PAT was blocked by Bill Haden, a 6″8″ end for USC. McKay practiced all week because he knew ZA kicked it low. So it was good coaching that beat the little brubuttholes and Tommy(smoke a cigarette) Prothrow. you lost to a much better team and USC won the Natty on that game. sorry loser!!

      • Funny that a communist is talking about relevance, since the Soviet Union fell 25 years ago. And I’m old enough to have watched Gary Beban beat SC.

38-28, comrade; and hey, good luck this weekend against the Sun Devils.

    • Hate to say it, but I agree with you. All that assumes Mora stays though. Unlikely you get an equivalent coach if Mora leaves (which is likely if current success continues).

  10. Some of you may want to read the whole statement. Haden waited until they cleared up the Joe McKnight and Davon Jefferson matters. The NCAA basically did not punish SC for those situations rather than pile on SC some more.

      • That’s what it sounded like in the statement. I have no personal knowledge. SC stalled and stalled. Had they not gone through all those appeals, they would be out of the woods by now. Now you need more players and a new coach, because Kiffin could lose with 105 players. Probably the worst coach in a revitalized PAC-12

        • Joe McKnight/Jefferson was a weird confligration of Los Angeles politics and corrution inside the County Assessors office. The person who gave McKnight the LandRover was also the person soliticing for lower assessment in exchange for jobs, favors and contributions, or something like that. How McKnight/Jefferson were involed who knew.

So put yourself in Haden place. You are slammed by the Bush/Mayo case, which, objectivly, was and is unprecented since the “High Profile Atheltes Demand Higher Compliance” standard announed by Paul Dee has be followed, exactly never. But during the Bush investigation, evidence of which included a car, Joe McKnight, whose family was devasted by Karina, is driving around a $25,000 LandRover and all Carroll can do is go Sargeant Schultz and maintain “I know NOTHING!” and get pissy with Garrett when he suspends McKnight for the Rose Bowl? And as the Mayo investigation ensues, Jefferson is walking around campus with lots of cash? And the NCAA wants answers to that?

Then there was the question, set aside by the NCAA, of Jarrett living with Leinart at a $3,000 dollar apartment.

Sanchez’s date rape, Frostee Rucker, Winston Justice waiving around BB guns, LenDale’s close relationship with Snoop Dogg. Cushing and HGH and PEDs.

Does Haden really want the NCAA digging around Carroll’s program. Note that the Seahawks are playing well, but they also have a high percentage a PED suspensions.

But the dimit anonymous cowards are calling Haden “weak” because he doesn’t want the NCAA to look at the Carroll years any more than they have?

Thank God adults are in charge now.

          • Joe McKnight was suspended for the Emerald Bowl in 2009. Carroll had him packed and ready to get on the plane. Garrett stopped it and carroll had a snit fit.

I believe, but I could be wrong that Jefferson was suspended for mysterious reasons. he left school and the cash thing came up during the criominal investigation of the County Assessor’s Office.

  11. First, a minor point, ‘under taken’ should read undertaken, the same as an NCAA undertaker is not an
    under taker

Second, what is the additional information this faulty institution is requesting?– endorsements from our SUCLA brothers on this blog? An apology letter from Bush? Or a promise by SC that it will never own college football as it did during Carroll’s reign?

  12. as i have already pointed out….the Molester U sanctions were reduced because they ADMITTED fault, and kept their dirty molester noses clean!!

what did Southern Cal do??? deny everything, appeal, appeal, appeal, and MacNair is STILL SUING the NCAA!!!

meanwhile Kiff is switching jerseys, lying about AP votes and player meetings, deflating balls and trying to persecute the most beloved Southern Cal journalist, the WOLFMAN!!!

    you call this PROGRESS???

ok you can have ONE SCHOLLIE back!!!

    HAWR-HAAAAAWR!!!

    • Yea! It didn’t have anything to do with the State of PA suing the NCAA. Admitted what Honey Bucket?

    • Kind of a shame you have no idea of the facts. Pennsylvania sued the NCAA. This is not a single coach deprived of a livelihood. This is an entire state challenging the NCAA’s authority to impose sanctions. This is admitting fault?

Seriously, your lack of knowledge about the topics on which you post is legendary. You may be the last knowledgeable person in the history of the internet.

      • “Seriously, your lack of knowledge about the topics on which you post is legendary”

        ————————————————

Exactly, I’ve had to straighten this idiot out numerous times over the same issue

Bucket’s motto is; “If I can’t dazzle them with brilliance then I’ll baffle them with bullshit

The guy has some serious mental issues, but lives in denial

  13. Scholarship reductions caused Kiffin to lose to hapless Georgia Tech and cellar dweller WSU. They also caused Barkley to go fourth round, and for Hundley to have a better year than the former “Heisman shoe-in.”
