USC Morning Buzz

How big an impact do scholarship reductions have on USC? Here’s my analysis on the subject.
USC used 48 players against Utah State last weekend and 44 were on scholarship. Thirty players were used on offense and defense. This is supposed to be Exhibit A for how USC is operating with one hand tied behind its back. Full story here

  1. Scotty:
You just don’t get it. Why do they do scholarship reductions if they don’t effect schools? USC has been recruiting with hands tied behind there backs for the last three years. Go back and read your own articles on how gloom and doom was headed for USC with scholarship reductions.
They drastically effect the pool you can draw from to find good players because every program is going to get some 4 & 5 star bust. You need a few 2 stars to fill in the gaps. With scholarship reductions USC can’t even think about looking at guys that might get better down the road.Scotty go back to taking creepy pictures with cheerleaders and giving Bucket back massages.

  2. One thing you aren’t considering with the scholarship reductions is the mix of classes, i.e. seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshman.
How many younger kids are forced to play, even if just special teams, and even potentially losing a redshirt year because of the few number of upper classman.
Just looking at pure numbers i don’t think tells the whole story. i have never analyzed our specific situation so not sure how balanced we are, but when i look at the guys on the field, we sure are young!!!!!

    • the obvious flip-side is, most of these kids CAME TO PLAY!! who ever heard of a high school hotshot who WANTS to redhshirt?? and don’t forget these kids are 19 yrs old!! as Jim (George) Raveling used to say: “19 yr old kids don’t get tired, they should be able to run until the cow come home”!!

most of these kids probably went both ways in HS and some probably never left the field some games!! but suddenly everyone’s tired?? after 3 games????

      • not talking about fatigue, just the reality of having a roster full of kids vs a healthy mix of guys that have been in the program for 4-5 years. unless you are a flat out stud first round type pick, good chance you’ll sit awhile in a program with a lot of upper classman

  3. another VIRTUOSO performance, wolfman!!

you are right AGAIN!! taking apart Kiff’s excuses in sections, like a tangerine!!

fans of Southern Cal football don’t even have to see any games, just reading your blog is MORE than enough coverage for anyone to know EXACTLY what’s going on!!!

    • Man crush, get a room!

…..and don’t forget to change your diaper

PS…betomas thanks you for the masterpiece left in shitter #4…..ouch!!!

  4. If Wolfie spent 1/10 of the time he spends on scholarship reductions and actually covered the USC Football Team, we would have the best beat writer in America. Instead we get a one trick pony.

    • Bucket is his only supporter, which isn’t saying much!

Sometimes I think they are the same person, it wouldn’t surprise me

    • The sad truth is that Wolfie doesn’t really CARE about the USC Football…..his primary agenda is simply to get Kiffin fired…. think about it…. what else would he really have to write about?…..

        • Very good question, CS……since his “column” syndicated (God help the Long Beach Press-Telegram), Wolf probably makes just enough scratch to keep up with his obvious gambling addiction (hence, his ongoing obsession with point spreads)…..he may also have incriminating photographs of Petros Papadakis in a compromising position with a Greek longshoreman…..

  5. “There is no comparison between USC and Penn State,” the NCAA said in a statement issued Friday. “USC’s appeal was denied and there is no further consideration being given.”

  6. Wolf you are falling into that typical media M.O., look for a one dimensional, black and white argument and beat it to death. USC’s struggles are multifaceted like the game itself. Scholarship reductions, injuries, skill of the coaches, other schools getting hot with new coaches and new found success and I’m sure even more. Time to move on and let’s get ready for a difficult night tomorrow.

  7. I do have compassion for ThaiBean, so I’ll help him find his daddy.
    .
Now, his mama worked at the Molina Rojo in TJ. She most likely made her customers “cover” up. Therefore, it was one of the employees. Now based on the totality of ThaiBean’s posts, it is obvious he is ignorant. Ergo, it was the Dishwasher!

No need to thank me TB, just let me know how your first meeting with Daddy goes.

    • Thai ain’t even on this post!! he mustta got you GOOD recently!!!! you are totally obsessed!!

the NCAA just booty busted Southern Cal AGAIN!! and you are on here ranting about Thai who ain’t even here??

and what a weird story you spun! all that work, sounds like projection to me! and that would explain a lot! you’ll just never get the fact that Dummies like you are an open book to the educated elites such as myself!!

  8. HEY EVERYONE GUESS WHAT WE ARE DISCUSSING FOR THE 12th time..
ANOTHER SCHOLARSHIP REDUCTION WRITE UP BY SCOTT WOLF…
    GO FIGURE!
Wolf you sure do beat the SH*T out of a story dont you..

  9. Did anyone hear Rick Neuheisel on the Mason & Ireland show today?

He said that the scholarship reductions are the MAJOR reason of USC’s struggles and talked about the weakness at offensive line and the ability to have physical practices like Pete Carroll did.

  10. Another thought on scholarship reductions, SuC couldn’t get a full class of 15 last year because no one wants to play there. Looking at their class this year, they may have to give a couple scholarships to the homeless pair sleeping under Tommy Toejam to fill out this year’s class!

Why does Kiffin get so many 5* busts? Max Browne must really suck if he is third string to Kessler and Witless! At least you have the Baby QB coming in next year to save the day!

Also, wasn’t Kiffin a genius for saving those extra scholarships to use next year or for an early enrollee?

    Keep On Kiffin On!

  11. Is this your FINAL analysis on this redundant subject, which we are all sick of reading about. Wolf is not a journalist. What a waste of time this blog is. Absolutely worthless.
