Here’s who I believe are five candidates that USC will consider to replace Lane Kiffin. I’m not assessing if they would take it. 1. James Franklin, Vanderbilt; 2. Jeff Fisher, Rams; 3. Jack Del Rio (former Jaguars coach); 4. Chris Petersen, Boise State; Mike Riley, Oregon State.
#s 2,4,5 no way.
Gruden, Cower, Fisher, Del Rio, Strong, Sumlin, Petersen. First 3 are unlikely, but $ talks.
All are unlikely. Keep smokin your pipe.
Now who’s smoking? I thought it was unlikely they’d fire him during the season, especially this early. Also SC has the $, unlike the light blue school who is funded by a soon to be bankrupted state.
Another worried bruin! I love it
Lol. Bruins not worried a bit! Mora is our guy and at best you’ll be lucky to match him. My guess is that you’ll try to replicate his hire and fall short.
Yes, that’s it, you found us out. We want to be just like fucla!! rotflmao
Really, who wants to be like fucla!!
Haha, I think most Trojies anyway! How long until Haden calls Mora?
Have to agree. Mora is an excellent coach and indeed, we would be lucky to replicate his hire.
On a hoops note, Jack the Ripper would be an improvement over KO. Andy’s resume is impressive and most Trojans are upbeat about it. Perhaps people in glass houses shouldn’t…in light of the opinion of so many in the Bruin nation regarding their new acquisition. I also find it interesting that SC fans have never found it necessary to go over to BZ and talk smack…present company reluctantly accepted.
Obviously…you don’t check out BZ at all…..TVofTroy, Nubsie, and others frequent the site (and regularly get their azzzzes handed to them). Wang’s site is POLLUTED with SCUm just about every day. If you want to see how LOW SUCks really is…take a visit over to WW (wildwest). Some of the stuff that comes out of TORGAN mouths is right out of The Third Reich. 100% Disgusting
fit UN Torgans!
I have been posting a couple of times a year on BZ for the past 10+ years…always with respect in anothers house. TV ofTroy occasionally posts but never with smack. As far as Nubsie and “others” are concerned…this fabrication is best saved for cocktail parties where BS abounds unchecked. “Regularly get their azzzzes handed to them” is fiction in order to make a point. Regarding Wild West…it is composed of Bruin as well as Trojan idiots whose prime purpose is to sling mud at one another. I’m surprised that anyone who is even remotely concerned with factual statements would continue to visit that site. Your vitriol makes Mr. Bucket appear as a reincarnated Pollyanna.
Thus, for thee and me, ending any type of potential meaningfull dialogue.
BTW – Using ALL CAPS as an emphasis prompt, went out before the advent of computers.
it’s either Gruden or none of them…a hire completely out of left field, but a strong one.
Mike Riley has two losses to 1AA teams (or whatever they call them) and two losing records in the last three years! Just because he won’t kick local beat writers out of practice, doesn’t make him qualified to be the head coach at SC.
I agree. Riley wins a big game now and then but he has not builta great program, period.
Not Mike Riley…overrated, so is Jeff Fisher. How about Vic Fangio of the 49ers. The Harbaugh coaching tree seems to be doing pretty well.
I don’t see Vic Fangio as a head coach anywhere. I think of him as a Paul Hackett–a good coordinator.
But wasn’t there talk last year that he might interview for a HC job at the NFL level. it doesn’t seem like there are too many experienced HC ‘s out there who may be interested. Gruden, Cowher, Bellotti, Lovie Smith, Norv Turner? Either underwhelming options or longshots. We might have to go for a coordinator.
Petersen has never won truly big. Been at boise too long and is very good, bit to be great, he needed to be on another bus long ago.
Look at the model for winners. They program hop and climb the ladders. The consistently win on big stage. No controversy they cannot handle. Don’t want NFL job or been there and done that. Top10 year in and year out. Few and far between. Saban, Miles, Meyer. Sure I missed a couple.
Gruden, Fisher, Franklin, With Petersen as the top choice. Riley=baggage, DelRio maybe. Teford no way.
Gruden is the top and only choice cuz Petersen ain’t leaving Boise, Fisher ain’t leaving an NFL gig and Del Rio would be a horrible move.
I totally agree with you.
Gruden would be a good choice. Right personality for college kids, is an NFL re-tread, big name…etc…he’s probably your best bet.
Petersen is a joke. Does alright in his tiny pond. think bigger…you’re SC afterall.
Who would have guessed Haden would have hired Enfield? I wouldn’t be surprised he’s got a solid hire and waiting to pull the trigger. Now Haden can complete the rebuilding of the Trojan sports dynasty.
Like the solid baseball, track and women’s basketball hires ?
Patients, my friend, let it play out.
It’s curious you’re ready to call Enfield a great hire before he’s coached a game. Typical Trojie.
Sounds just like fucla after the mora hire. face
He’s a winner wherever he’s been.
There is NO “solid” coach that will make himself available in the middle of the season. So no, Haden does not have anyone ready to “pull the trigger” with. Haden may have names in mind to ask, but there will be an interim coach named and a new coach hired after this season is over. In the meantime, USC’s easy part of the schedule is over and they are 3-2. Looking more and more like a 5-8 year now.
You might be lucky to get Kiffin’s brother out of the SEC at best!
Worried, are we? Ha, bruin nation worried
As long as you have Haden as your AD, there is nothing to worry about. It took him how long to finally pull the trigger? And he only did so when his powerful booster said it is either Kiffin or himself. we all know that Haden really never liked him and thought about firing him in his first few days on the job, but it took Haden 2-1/2 years to finally get the job done. I have faith that Haden will not be able to hire the coach they need and even more faith knowing that Haden won’t know when to fire him as well. It is going to be a long, rough ride for USC. So why should bruin fans be worried now?
Haden is better than Guerror…Bruins have nothing to gloat about in their AD. At least Haden pulled the trigger when he did, allowing a thorough search to proceed. Guerror lucked into Mora and hoepfully doesn’t lose him through his incompetence like he did Nikki Caldwell.
And regarding Rusty Buckets…not necessarily worried (and strong rivalry is fun, too) but would definitely have been happier with that idiot Kiffin running your team.
You’re forgetting the obvious…JIM MORA JR!
100% of Trojan fans would take him.
No chance it is Jim Mora, Jr, he has way too much integrity for USC. Actually, any integrity is too much for USC.
Oh yeah, that’s right. Mora is now Mr. Integrity! Ha!
When you’re hot, you’re hot.
Bandwagons attract all kinds. Don’t get burned, you think you are so hot.
UCLA? Integrity? Jonnie Wooden and Sam Gilbert? JD Morgan? Problem for the bel-airians is that they never were made to pay for what went on and allowed to be ignored so many years ago.
What goes around comes around – UCLA’s day will come.
Isn’t that what SUC is experiencing now?
You may be right, who knows, but until that day comes, I enjoy watching USC go down in flames.
Unless Haden has his #1 guy available now, he’s not hiring till December at the earliest probably into January. This is a prime college coaching job. Haden can let it hang out there for guys to ponder and maneuver for.
Except Texas is really the plumb job opening.
Gruden needs to be #1 on any list, Kirby Smart should be #2
tough to get him out of alabama
Right. Can you see Gruden running around recruiting – pandering to punk teenagers – I think not.
Re: Kirby Smart – Not likely that USC will hire someone without HC experience.
How about hiring Monte Kiffin? He could then hire his son as his Offensive Coordinator.
Now that’s funny.
Good one!
Outstanding comedy!
Then they might as well pipe in the “Benny Hill” theme music during the games (‘Yakity Sax”).
Henry McGee as OC??
Noel Mazzone-UCLA
no way
Jeff Fisher has already indicated that he has a long-term contract with the Rams that he intends to honor. Jack Del Rio is DC for Denver Broncos and will probably be tied up until after the Super Bowl – too late for this year’s recruiting class. Chris Petersen has turned down multiple big-school inquiries over the years and it is unlikely he will change his mind now. USC might have been able to get Mike Riley once upon a time, but he is in his second stint at Oregon State and probably wouldn’t want to move now. James Franklin may be a possibility. I’m sure that Haden has had a list of possible candidates in his hip pocket for some time now. After all, he had his list for basketball coaches.
Haden will get another NFL re-tread like Carroll or Mora and hope the magic happens again. No way a coach without NFL experience gets hired at SC.
GRUDEN
Hue Jackson for USC coach 2014. Has USC ties as a former OC and recruit, is from the neighborhood and went to Dorsey High, will be an excellent recruiter who can relate to the social media generation of recruits. Former OC for Cal, where they were a highly ranked offense. Turned Raiders offense into a top 5 running team the 2 years he was there, with back to back 8-8 seasons, after he was let go Oakland went back to 4-12. Was the Ravens QB coach, integral in the early development of Joe Flacco, the man is a teacher of football. Currently assistant Head Coach for the Bengals, who have turned around in just his second season on the staff there. Look for Hue’s name to start popping up here. Has a great name in coaching circles and can bring in a good staff. Del Rio would be great, but Hue Jackson’s offensive playcalling is very well-suited for the college game. Al Davis was right about Lane Kiffin when he fired him. He was also right when he made Hue Jackson the last head coach that he hired. Hue Jackson is what the Trojans need right now.
Sounds like better at OC than HC, good arguement though.
Except we don’t need another HC calling plays. I do agree that he is definitely a candidate worth considering.
I heard USC is looking strongly at Norm Chow now that he has head coaching experience.
Wolf is looking at Norm Chow. Mancrush. Ol Norm is 3-13 at that powerhouse he is building over there across the Pacific.
Anyone even remotely associated with USC is an embarrassment to himself. What a joke of a place. A place for the current crop of assholes to develop the next generation of assholes.
truest words spoken on this blog in a LOOOOOONG time.
The question is… Who will Scott Wolf support and for how long. Seems like whoever the coach is, this blog is about lambasting his decisions, technique, methods, etc. Even when Pete Carroll was here it was never good enough.
My choices, in no particular order: Ed Orgeron, Hue Jackson, Charlie Strong, James Franklin, Steve Sarkisian, and Tim DeRuyter.
