Jack Del Rio Not At LAX

For those of you (like me) totally underwhelmed at the idea of Jack Del Rio becoming USC’s next football coach, here’s what Denver Broncos coach John Fox said about that tweet Del Rio was at LAX last night.

“He wasn’t at LAX. I was with him at DelFriscos when that report happened,” Fox said.

And here’s what Pat Haden told Dan Patrick about when asked how important it would be to hire a USC guy? “Not important,” Haden said.

That’s a relief since Del Rio never coached in college, never recruited and does not strike me as the type of personality USC needs to recover from the Kiffin era.

  1. deep down, every Trogan knows the man SC really needs and wants – unfortunately he coaches at UCLA! BOOM!

  2. You don’t even know the guy and he’s not even the coach, but already you’re snarky towards him. Why doesn’t he strike you as a good candidate? Jim Mora never coached in college…or PC. Guy is an alum and gets USC, a great college player himself, a good defensive coordinator, and was a head coach in the pros. He’d prob try to keep EO, and bring in other college guys. So ease of on the attitude already, Perez Hilton.

      • Do you follow college football?Recruiting coordinator of the year? Nationally known as one of the bestDLine coachesin the biz? The guy

  3. But no acknowledgement from the journalist that his report of Del Rio being at LAX was BS?

Maybe you should have a slightly higher standard of sources for reporting than “unconfirmed twitter reports.”

The real story here is how Scott’s standards are somewhere between Perez Hilton and a 12 year old gossiping schoolchild.

    • Essentially, that is exactly what this blog has become…..the National Enquirer of USC Athletics……

        • he never said he was there. He said someone on twitter said he was there. Wolfie was 100% correct, again.

          • Stu, just when you start to sound like you know what are you are talking about….when Scott reports it on his blog, he is reporting it. Journalists should be held to higher standards than a Facebook update. it used to be that a journalist required two confirmed sources before reporting. Now, you hold Scott up to the same standards as any guy with a Twitter account. If I post to twitter that “unconfirmed reports have Jim Mora leaving UCLA this week to take a job at CalTech in the Math department” and of course it is not true, can I just say, oh I was right! I did say it was unconfirmed.

          • he reported “someone tweeted” JDR was at LAX. If you read more into it, that’s on you. And you need to remember this is a BLOG, not the paper. On top of that, it’s a FREE blog. You get what you pay for!

And let’s not kid ourselves – Wolfie’s one of a thousand reporters throwing the rumors around. You clowns would bash him if he didn’t, and you’ll bash him when he does.

          • Just to be clear, your argument here is that, if we read into Scott’s blog that he’s actually providing accurate information, its on us? This blog is now fiction? Or since we don’t pay for it, we shouldn’t expect accuracy? I don’t pay for Jim Hill on CBS or Fred Roggin on NBC. But I do expect them to be accurate as journalists.

          • On a blog you have discussions and in the aftermath of a coaching change there are a lot of rumors flying. There is nothing wrong with discussing the rumors. Even after your hero Kiffin is canned you rah rahs still keep attacking.

          • Nope. Point is that it’s easy to tell when he’s passing on rumors and not reporting facts. If you can’t tell the difference, it’s on you.

  4. Well looks like Harvey Levin played another fast one on Wolf, but what can’t be disputed, is that Charlize Bucket closed down the blue dolphin last night. Slope has it on authority that he was in rare form!

  5. Would love to see the comments by a Wolf when Pete Carroll was a candidate, and also the new hire.

  6. “Mr Haden, Scotty Wolf is on the phone.” Not ever going happen. Haden would tell his assistant to tell Scotty to pound sand. Scotty why dont you and Bucket sit in your 1 bedroom apartment and wait for Pat to call for your advice.

      • No Scotty is reporting what is on TMZ. There is an objective hard working reporter. Using reporter and Scotty in the same sentence is blasphemy. Marvy go pick up you social security check and have your gums checked.

  7. Taking jabs at a Del Rio already? HA! boy you never stop..
Who would you like to see as the HC Wolf?

  8. As always you’re dead on, wolfman!!! But the smart money says Taco Del Rio is gonna be the guy… AFTER Saban, Meyer and Mora all consider it CAREFULLY, I mean!

    HAWR-HAAAAWR!!!!!!

      • uh excuse, me, Rusty, but did not the Boozy Elf get down on his knees and BEG Savage to leave us hrs after he won the CWS???
now THAT was desperation!! triple the money to leave??

so why wouldn’t he get on his knees again???

he just publicly got on his knees and begged the NCAA for mercy when he had ZERO chance of getting any!!

Sith Lord Garrett was an A$$, but at least he was a man.

    • Hey, whatever happened to the “Coach P” love
affair? If I remember correctly, the bruin A-team was sent to Boise to bring him back to Westwood. In the end, the Cal State Dominguez Hills alum couldn’t
      close the deal.

  9. Wolf wants Mike Riley! Yeah, after Saban, Meyer, and Miles everybody has Riley as the fourth best college coach in the nation! Del Rio might be a great hire, first of all, if he’s burning to coach USC for the rest of his career.

  10. Why limit yourself to the usual suspects? I’d call Jimmy Johnson, Steve Spurrier, etc and think outside the box..

  11. btw, i just figured out why SW is being such a jerk – he realizes that Del Rio has the best shot, and there’s no way he can have a good rapport with an SC head coach. Has to get the right snarky tone established right off the bat, if not sooner…jerk.
