USC-Arizona State Report Card

RESULT: Arizona State 62, USC 41

RECORD: 3-2, 0-2

TEAM GPA: 1.4

QUARTERBACK

Almost lost Cody Kessler completed 20 of 29 passes under a lot of pressure. Interceptions were deadly though.

C-

RUNNING BACKS

Tre Madden and Justin Davis each gained more than 100 yards like the Reggie Bush-LenDale White days.

A-

WIDE RECEIVERS

Before injury, Marqise Lee still did not look like himself until 51-yard reception in third quarter.

C-

OFFENSIVE LINE

Did not do a great job protecting Kessler and were one of Lane Kiffin’s undoings.

C

DEFENSIVE LINE

Some bright moments but hard to compliment when defense gives up 62 points.

D+

LINEBACKERS

Too many holes in defense right behind the line, exposed by quality offense.

F

SECONDARY

Did Clancy Pendergast forget to cover the tight end?

F

SPECIAL TEAMS

Andre Heidari missed an extra point. Another blemished kicking performance.

C-

COACHING

Lane Kiffin got fired during game where Clancy Pendergast gave up 62 points.

Man I hate Wolfie. Grading Lane who’s not even the coach. Oh, wait, no, I LOVE WOLFIE! F!

  • Trojan Hoarse

So that was Clancy Pendergast was playing cornerback?….And the turnovers and poor field position were his fault, too?…….Whew!.. thank you for clearing that one up for us, Wolf…….another blemished blog post…..

    • Paul Hackett

Hey, you were slobbering all over him when his D was shutting down glorified JC offenses, he gets the heat when they can’t cover a slow tight end.

      • Trojan Hoarse

Where is your proof that I was “slobbering all over him”?????…..that’s what I thought…..more hollow accusations from another hating, loser troll….pathetic…..

        • Bruin Rick

Before suc’s last game, you wrote this about Clancky Pendersuck:

BRick, BRick, BRick……you are simply dismissing his accomplishment as
a talented defensive coordinator as a “flook”?…..it’s “fluke”, by the
          way…..your credibility is zilch…..

          • Trojan Hoarse

That’s “slobbering”?…Okkaaaaaayyyy…..and at least I’m not a coward and keep my profile settings on PRIVATE like Bucket!!!!!…and the reality is, you WERE being dismissive!!!…. He had the #1 defense at Cal, of all places…..CAL!!!….And that’s a FACT!

          • Hey SUC’s

AZ State 62 – Goats 41 = an Epic Fact.

          • Trojan Hoarse

SUC Face…..I’m glad that you’re finally able to distinguish between fact and fiction…..Hate On!

          • Hey SUC’s

No problem Horsey. SUC Zip and 2 in P12 So. Conf. standings. And that’s another dynamic fact. You need to start thinking about maybe next year.

          • Trojan Hoarse

Wow……you’re using dramatic words such as “Epic”…and “Dynamic”……have you been reading Word Power again?…good for you….

            ….HEY!

    • Danny

Trojan Hoarse, I think you are taking Wolfe’s too literally:
The Clancy Pendergras comment on the secondary was that ASU’s tight ends were open a lot.
More generally, are you suggesting that the grades not fair? Its tough to give any member of the defense anything greater than a “C-” when the other team sets an all time scoring record.

      • Trojan Hoarse

Danny – Of course… you would be right… I am certainly guilty of taking Wolf quite literally…. I realize that you visit this site from time to time, from the UCLA blog, so you are probably not subject to the same type of “reporting” as what you enjoy from Jack Wang….Yes, the tight ends constantly wide open…..too many blown assignments, mainly by the corners….we allowed too many big plays…..the penalties hurt, as always…turnovers killed us, especially the pick 6….so based on the ASU performance, these grades are obviously more than fair and well deserved, unfortunately….

Are SC fans going to boo their own team again when they get blown out by stanford and ucla at home

          • FIGHTONtoVICTORY

Is Graham gonna take off once he gets pulverized by UW and UCLA?

          • Trojan Hoarse

By definition, those who boo their own team would not be considered to be true fans, at least not by me……and the boos this year by the home crowd were intended more for the coaches, specifically, Lane Kiffin, and not intended for teenage kids……

          • Stu Azole

“by definition” doesn’t allow for the “at least by me” carve-out. Silly trogan.

          • Trojan Hoarse

            Thank you for your correction.

      • SaferInWestwood

        BRILLIANT!!

  • gotroy22

C- is fair, Madden’s fumble on the 45 yard line with 2:50 left in the half with us only down 17-14 hurt. We were marching for the go ahead score and instead we were down 20-14 at halftime.

  • B.Miller

    What happened to the Defense?

    • Hey SUC’s

The SUC defense is in the dog house and is running 62 laps around the SUC memorial crypt.

  • trojandude207

I think the C grade for the O line was extremely generous They learned that deer in the headlights look from the head coach no doubt. Watching them stand there and look at the guy, they were supposed to block, go whizzing to stop the play was painful. Yet it happened too many times.

  • Golden Trojan

Points off turnovers was the difference in score and shifting momentum to ASU. Pendergast deserves an F. Kiffin should get and E for Expelled!

  • Fred Sampson

If you are going to follow Football then you need to understand that the Offence can’t leave the Defense out to dry every 3 downs. That’s where most of those 62 points came from, so I don’t understand the Clancy Pendergast crack.
