Today’s comments by Tony Dungy prompted USC athletic director Pat Haden to issue a statement that false representatives are reaching out to coaching candidates, including Dungy and Denver Broncos assistant Jack Del Rio.
“Tony’s discussion on the radio today of being contacted by USC was a complete surprise to us,” Haden said. “So were the calls made to the Broncos. I can assure you no authorized representative of USC or our athletic department made these calls.
“As I said last week, we will not comment on every name that comes out. It would be a disservice to our players and coaches, who are devoting everything they have into the remainder of our season. We have a head coach right now in Ed Orgeron. We have not offered the job to anyone.”

I like Coach O a lot, but he is definitely not the one they should choose to lead the program in the coming years. I say keep Orgeron on as the d-line coach and recruiting coordinator and continue giving him loads of money. He’s great at those two things, but he’s not cut out to be the head coach of USC.
Let’s not be silly now. It should be Petersen or Sumlin. Those are the only two names that Haden should be focused on at this point.
