USC-Arizona Report Card

RESULT: USC 38, Arizona 31

RECORD: 4-2, 1-2

TEAM GPA: 3.0

QUARTERBACK

Cody Kessler did not turn ball over and even looked faster on 34-yard run without Lane Kiffin.

B

RUNNING BACKS

Silas Redd a mini-game MVP with his running on last series to put game away.

B+

WIDE RECEIVERS

Tight ends did a nice job but overall a few too many dropped passes.

C+

OFFENSIVE LINE

Did not do a great job protecting Kessler and were one of Lane Kiffin’s undoings.

B-

DEFENSIVE LINE

Leonard Williams and J.R. Tavai combined for 22 tackles.

B+

LINEBACKERS

Too many holes in defense right behind the line, exposed by quality offense.

Hayes Pullard made 10 tackles but overall position often plays quiet.

C+

SECONDARY

Late meltdown almost sent game to overtime. Need to get that fixed by Notre Dame.

D

SPECIAL TEAMS

Even Andre Heidari played better without Lane Kiffin.

B+

COACHING

Amazing what happens when players believe in their head coach and playcalling includes all players and no bubble screens.

  1. Did that report card actual come from the wolfman?

The guy is going soft on us, interesting!

  2. I hear they are bringing Kiffin back. He will be in charge of all football publicity and dealing with reporters. They figure he can explain scholarship reductions better than anyone.

  3. …the DB’s were beyond BRUTAL…for that alone the coaching should be a B-…the CB’s bit on fakes that PoP Warner kids don’t get fooled on…THAT’S COACHING

  4. 550 yards total offense
    almost 300 yards passing
38 points, none by a 20 yard drive, or anything like that.

no INTs, no fumbles, and 50 yards in penalties.

According to Bill Connelly of Football Outsiders, on an “opponent-adjusted” basis, Arizona’s defense ranked in the top 10 before that game, and it still ranks #13.

And Scott’s overall GPA for the offense is 2.82, not even a B.

I can’t say that I agree with Scott.

  5. DB’s need to play smart and discipline.. Because ND is a throwing machine..
TE and WR need to help Kessler out and catch the passes..
OL PROTECT and don’t get bullied!
    AND STAY HEALTHY!

    • I would be more concerned if Everett Golson were the QB, but Tommy Rees is a statue and will get pummelled by our speedy defense……heck, he couldn’t even outrun a cop last year….
