Tight Ends Xavier Grimble, Randall Telfer And TB Justin Davis Out For Utah Game

USC coach Ed Orgeron said tight ends Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer are out for Saturday’s game. Grimble has a sprained ankle while Telfer sprained his knee. Davis appeared to sprain his ankle.

Wide receiver Marqise Lee is questionable while tailback Tre Madden cannot practice yet but Orgeron hopes he might be available by Saturday.

Tight ends haven’t contributed much anyway, Lee can’t catch so let him sit and watch the freshman take his job. RB by committee works well when the line decides to block.

Now we are at a point of the season where lack of depth is a major factor. The two starting tight ends are out, with one inexperienced tight-end plus a 5th year converted defensive end ready to stand in for them. That will add to the o-line blocking problems, where we already weak at the tackle positions, with no back-ups as alternatives. As the ND announcers mentioned on one of the last crucial plays of the game, we were down to a freshman walk-on wide receiver for an obvious passing down. Its going to get pretty rough at least until some of the injured return to health.
