Linebacker D.J. Calhoun Decommits

With no official head coach for next season, it’s not really surprising if a recruit decommits. A new coach will get hired and have a chance to convince recruits like Calhoun to go to USC.

Perhaps USC knew this for awhile and it is the reason the Trojans took a couple less-heralded linebackers the past two weeks. This also reminds me how Lane Kiffin said he no longer got excited when a recruit committed because commitments were essentially worthless these days.

  1. Wow, I’m shocked. Funny part is that he really wants to be a Bruin but Mora’s not having it. Trojans gunna lose a guy to ASU – but I guess that’s fitting since ASU helped end the Lane Era.

  2. Regarding the hunt for a new head coach, I thought of a possible candidate who might be available at the end of this season, as he is currently on the hot seat in the SEC…. and that would be Mark Richt….thoughts?

    • Much rather have Art Briles. The best way to play defense in the PAC is to have a great offense. We need to dictate the pace of the game and not Oregon or ASU. The ball-controlling offense works when you have a great defense and great 3rd down offense. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to play great defense in the PAC week-in week-out. If we are giving up 62 points, may as well score 63.

    • Richt doesn’t strike me as being LA enough. Good coach though. Regarding Calhoun, is he really the best LB in Cali? It is tough to say. Kiffin recruited nice 4 and 5 star guys and that is great but was/is he a good evaluator of talent? Lesser known recruits aren’t necessarily bad- a good comparison would be the U. Comparable talent bases in an urban area, Miami loaded up on local talent even though a lot of these guys were “only” three star guys. Good recruiting along the trenches seems to me to be the best answer.

  3. pUSC’s class is currently ranked #9–in the Pac 12. No coach, no quarterback, no momemtum.

  4. If nothing else Ed Orgeron can project and spot Talent , so if he needs to pick up a Linebacker somewhere else I’m sure he will. USC has had way too many 4 and 5 Star recruits on their roster that have not produced over the years especially on that offensive line (Andre Walker and John Martinez) so these de-commits means nothing !!!
