Decommitment No. 2 In Two Days

Defensive tackle Michael Wyche of East Los Angeles College will not attend USC after all after failing to have the necessary classes to enroll early, according to uscfootball.com. This was always an iffy commitment in terms of USC’s decision but the Trojans have been focused on a lot of three-star players recently, so maybe it’s not so far-fetched.

It now means another valuable scholarship is available.

      Remaining schedule for the bRuins’ glory year:
      Oregon = Loss
      Colorado = Win
      Arizona = Too close to pick
      Washington = Loss
      ASU = Loss
      USC = Most likely a win, however anything can happen in a “rivalry” game.

      Not looking too good for the bRuins with their final year of Hundley!

          • Cheap seats

            Well, that’s the big difference between UCLA and USC.

            You guys are perfectly content with a “Pac-12 south championship” and will even brag about it.

            On the other hand, you’ll never catch a Trojan even mention a so-called “championship” that’s anything other than a Rose Bowl or NC.

          • SaferInWestwood

            Well that makes sense you would have to first win the South right?? kind of hard when you lose to WAZZU and get beat with the ugly stick in AZ, by the looks of it 1 – 5 ending looks about right but don’t worry the ice cream is on its way… .

            4 – 3 yeah that’s hilarious, ice cream sunday anyone?

          • EncinitasBruin

            As an alum and 25-year Bruin season ticket holder, I don’t accept anything less than a Rose Bowl appearance as true success. Last year was promising, but you presume too much when you lump all UCLA fans into the category you mention above. And yeah, I realize it’s been 14 years since the last time UCLA played in the RB (I was there as time expired and we lost to Dane and the Badgers). So, yes, it’s been a tough slog…

          • Cheap seats

            “you guys” are the trolls that frequent here. Yes…I do know there are many die-hards that love their team more than the hate. My best friend has season tickets in section 16 under the press box at the RB. I used to give him a hard time when he sat in the gold section (I think in 14 or 13) where it was all grumpies who would get mad if you stand up and cheer.

            Golf claps are the norm in your donor sections? =)

          • EncinitasBruin

            Golf claps. That’s funny. We are in Section 21, south end of the Press Box side (on about the 10). I like our section–it gets rowdy and loud, with only a few grumpies. It’s a nice mix.

          • EncinitasBruin

            Confused…last year we beat SC outright to win the South. If you are referring to 2011, agree.

      • Stu Azole

        From the guy who also predicted losses to Nebraska and Utah for the MIGHTY BRUINS, this list is, of course, laughable. Jealous on!

      • TrojanFan

        Sets up nicely for a Toilet Bowl appearance!

      • EncinitasBruin

        Agree with your predictions except for UW and ASU. 9-3 at the worst (one loss to either UW, ASU, or SC). Also, no WAY Hundley declares after he showed last week that he has a LOT of work to do before he’s NFL worthy. That’s the silver lining of him looking as lost as a goose in a hail storm when protection broke down against the Trees. Redshirt sophs rarely turn pro.

        Here’s my SC prediction:
        UT = close one, but win
        OSU = loss
        Cal = win
        STan = close because of your D, but loss
        CO = win
        UCLA = loss

        7-6, perhaps a Sun Bowl repeat.

        • Cheap seats

          EncinitasBruin = the only UCLA guy here that will bring some substance to his posts.

          I don’t know if the Stanford one will be close.

          Hunley has a way of bouncing back after a bad showing. And yes — I think he’s going to the draft especially after many have seen what can happen to guys like Barkley who stick around. It will depend on how many teams need QB. Last year’s draft didn’t have any team who really needed QB in the 1st or 2nd rounds.

          • EncinitasBruin

            I love good football, and I love Los Angeles. The city is my history, and my family lines–like a lot of Angelenos–split down the middle, half crimson & gold, and half blue & gold. My wife’s family is all SC (brother, dad, grandfather, aunts, uncles), and my family is all UCLA. Love this rivalry. ND may be SC’s biggest rival, but the crosstown rivalry we share is the most unique in the nation. And I hope you are wrong about Hundley…

          • Cheap seats

            Well, he’s got to do what best for his career because as Barkley (and Leinart) demonstrated, nothing is guaranteed.

            On a side note, Hunley’s dad actually stopped by my tailgate last year (mixed UCLA & USC fans) and introduced himself. There were some old UCLA alums that we were drinking with us and they told us who he was after he left.

            Whenever there’s a kid beyond his years, you usually can attribute it to a great parent.

            Even if Hunley leaves, you can bet Mora will handle the transition better than Kiffin did of playing 3 QB all the way to summer camp. That’s probably the #2 biggest blunder of Kiffin this year. #1 was not concentrating enough on offensive line recruits the last 3 years.

          • EncinitasBruin

            Yes, I agree. The fan in me wants him to stay, but as a Dad of 4, I want what’s best for the young man. Hard to pass up that money. Will depend on how he performs these final 7-8 games. That’s a great story about his father stopping by your tailgate. How cool is that?

            In the wings we have dual-threat Asianti Woullard, who is of the same mold as Hundley. I’m not too worried about losing BH, actually. Would much prefer to see Mariota go and BH stay, however!

            You’re recruiting the linemen now, however. We have plenty of linemen (which is rare for UCLA), but they are very young. Our starting five consists of one junior, two sophs, and two freshmen.

  • Violet

    I’ve said that when the Recruiting starts to decline, that’s the real time to worry. Lane first year was good, but now the lineman aren’t coming. Great lineman turn avg RB’s and QB’s into great RB’s and QB’s. But without good lineman, you could have Reggie Bush and it won’t matter much. (bad example, I know)
    Is it time to feak out? Let me know cause I’m almost there.

    • TrojanFan

      Violet, how do you keep your teeth so white?

      • EncinitasBruin

        I was admiring her teeth as well.

        • Trojan Hoarse

          I thinks it’s the Wild Cherry colored lipstick that brings out the whiteness of her teeth….

    • Arturo

      Freak out, Violet? Why? Recruiting is the most unpredictable elements in college football.Remember last year at this time, SC had the best recruiting class ever and then things didn’t end the way everyone had hoped. This year will be the opposite.It is how you finish.

      • SaferInWestwood

        And currently Ben & Jerry are on pace to finish 5 – 8, man if COL only had an average QB!!

        “They’re just jealous they can’t be USC” – MG

      Recruiting shouldn’t be judged in October… as we learned from last year.

      A big name coach will make all the difference. If I was the parent of a 5-star kid, I surely wouldn’t let them commit to a school that hasn’t even named their HC.

    • ThaiMex

      violet…excellent comment about linemen…because as everyone knows, at the time…Reggie wasn’t even the best running back in Los Angeles, that distinction belonged to Maurice Jones-Drew.

  • john wolcott

    One final thought as a rabid SC football fan– for years I have become depressed after the Trojans lost their first game of the year because it effectively eliminated them from national championship consideration. With no title hopes I lost most of my interest (Yes, I know, a very spoiled SC football fan)

    And the last time Troy had a legitimate chance at a title was in 2006 when an end-of-the-season fluke loss cost SC a shot at still another title

    So in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Troy had no shot, no matter who was coaching, so accept it and move on.

    These things runs in cycles, so remember and regale the 2003-2005 Trojan run. There will be another, but it may not materialize until about 2016.

  • Stu Azole

    Big problem for sc is getting decent players to enroll early. No coach, cr$p team, good luck. Those saved rides are going to go to waste!

  • EncinitasBruin

    October recruiting lists mean relatively nothing. However, I cannot remember a fall SC recruiting list with so few verbals, and average ratings below UCLA’s (3.3 vs 3.14). And I’m not trolling–I’m actually curious to see what will happen when SC lands a coach. Will be a great “recruitment rivalry” in the Southland between the Bruins and Trojans, as it was last year. But heck, even Oregon, the current Gold Standard of P12 football, only has 10 verbals right now…

  • Arturo

    SC has always recruited top notch players and that is not about to change in talent laden CA. They need linemen and guys with great character and work ethic.. ones that will create an atmosphere of competition and not entitlement.

  • Fred Sampson

    Thank goodness for the new de-commit Craze that’s been happening recently , because if USC signs the right Head Coach many of those 4 and 5 star recruits will de-commit from the Schools they committed to and sign with USC.

  • B.Miller

    Although the sanctions are over in Feb 2014. It will take at least 2 years for USC to be relevant in CFB. building up the roster and getting back to winning form.
