More Thoughts On Sean Harlow

I didn’t mention this in my original post on Sean Harlow but here’s a couple other things: First, he is playing right tackle for Oregon State and starting as a true freshman. That is usually considered the toughest position on the line so wouldn’t he easily be able to left tackle for USC?

If you think he was not good enough to play for USC I’d argue he can probably false start just as well as anyone else. Everyone knew about Harlow, especially USC, while he was at San Clemente. So yes, this was a recruiting blunder.

Maybe it lends some support to Ed Orgeron’s decision to take commitments from three stars recently.

    Kiffin who?….wrong blog!

  • Trojan Hoarse

I thought that LT (the blind side) was the most difficult position on the OL, or at least the most valued…. what the heck do I know….

    • TrojanFan

Now he’s an expert on recruiting….LOL!

      • Cheap seats

He’s the same guy who thought 5-2 meant 5 defensive linemen…..and loss of scholarships didn’t matter….

    • FIGHTONtoVICTORY

LT is the toughest, you’re right. Once again, Wolf is a hack.

      • Trojan Hoarse

Maybe Wolf thinks that John Mazur, who is left handed, is still our QB?

    • anno nimus

Right Tackle is the toughest ONLY if the QB is a Lefty.

      • Cheap seats

Yup…AND if the TE doesn’t line up on your side!

        • anno nimus

          Correct.

Fight On Scott! Oh, Reggie cheated. Turn him in too while you’re at it. We’re proud of our most infamous journalism grad. And Stu thinks you’re cute. Ate CLAP.

  • Cloud Shaman

I think Kiffin had to rely on 4-5 star recruits to distract from his coaching weaknesses

    • TrojanFan

The stage was way too big for Kiffin. He was trying to run, but had no idea now to walk

    • The Capper

Interesting point Steven. Continuing with your line of reasoning; if Kiffin was a really good coach he would’ve only recruited 3-4 star talent, if he was great he would’ve only recruited 2-3 star talent, and if he was Saban-esque he would’ve only recruited 1 star talent.

      • Cloud Shaman

His decision to recruit only 4-5 stars ultimately did him in as the expectations were off the chart and it reflected his coaching weaknessess as the recruits did not perform. So the attention was brought upon him as the cause
        .

        • The Capper

          So he should’ve…never mind.

  • steveg

Wrong again. When are you going to start proofing what you post. RT not LT

  • https://www.facebook.com/charles.bucket.3 Charlie Bucket

that’s some hard hitting journalism, wolfman, but sorely needed!!

wouldn’t the local linemen be under the recruiting purview of the Agin’ Cajun???

wolfman, it is also clear that you were suggesting that the Right tackle position is more important to the RUNNING game, which is traditionally more important to a running team like Southern Cal !!! great point, wolfman!!

    • TrojanFan

Shove the “man crush” thing up your a$$ and go troll the 405 if you’re looking for some attention(don’t forget the soiled jockstrap)

Dr. T Bone approved of the 9mm approach!

Chuckie: you’re right about one thing bro – journalism on this site is sorely needed ;-)

    • Tom Oday

Spin On! Honey Bucket. Both OT need to be good run-blockers but the blind-side OT is your best pass-protection-blocker.

  • WEB_Dupree

Wolf says he doesn’t read the comments, and maybe he’s telling the truth. He seems to be under the impression that someone is arguing that, even with the benefit of hindsight, USC still should not have offered this guy a scholarship.

Or maybe Wolf maintains a running argument in his head with an imaginary Kiffin.

    • Ben Factor

Yes, it’s easy to forget that USC’s class was full in July 2012, and that if all 18 had enrolled, it would have been as good an 18-member class as ever enrolled anywhere. Maybe Kiffin should have had a better contingency plan for an unexpected, disastrous season. I’m not so certain, but maybe…

Your last point, however, carries the day. What difference does it make now?

In addition, Scott implies that Orgeron is recruiting 3-stars even though 5-stars are burning down the door. Well, I haven’t read that anywhere. Orgeron is playing his recruiting cards as best he can, same as he’s doing with his game cards. Sounds like a plan.

      • gotroy22

What didfference does it make now? It confirms that Kiffin was a terrible coach despite what Helen and her band of idiot rah rahs say.

  • anno nimus

Scott, you’re a complete moron, even if USC was recruiting him, what makes you think he would have chosen USC?

    • marvgoux1

Because his father went there, and starred for us before you were born, you complete moron?

      • anno nimus

Really? Is that why Tim McDonald’s son Tevin went to UCLA? What a dumbass moron you are. Typical arrogant condom feeling condoms have some type of entitlement.

        • ProbationU

And how Ronnie Lott’s kid, Ryan Nece went to UCLA.

          • Joe Blow

That ended up a great choice didn’t it?

          • ProbationU

Nece did well and played in the NFL. Tevin found the magic reefer and got kicked off the team. And Wendell Tyler did a little better than his kid Marc. Sometimes $h!t just happens.

          • Joe Blow

Did Nece in a NC? Just wondering.

          • ProbationU

Did Marc Tyler go to the Rose Bowl? There is also the BB example of Ron Holmes and Shabazz Muhammad..such a fine example!

          • Joe Blow

You bore me. It’s the same old crap. Face it, ucla is a secondary program to USC Football. Oh yeah, ucla is ahead this year. Crawl back in your hole and wake me up when you win a NC in football. I’m not even going to respond to you anymore. You are boring me.

          • ProbationU

Yes, we should all bow down and bend over for the mighty Trojans and let them go Greek on us. UCLA was a secondary program, the facts show that. The future is not yet told. And if we don’t get better this year, we could easily lose.

Last time I checked the Trojans launched a 1000 ships and lost a war over a woman. No disrespect, Helen, but that truly shows a lack of intelligence. No reason for Bruins to bend over at the sight of the mighty Trojans and their fearsome warrior Achilles.

And Jerry Rice’s kid went to UCLA…and Bruin Wendell Tyler’s son Marc went to USC…and Aaron Wallace of Texas A&M sent his son to UCLA

  • john wolcott

LT is the most valuable offensive line position; just ask the pros who they pay the most

“…he can probably false start just as well as anyone else.” You know, Scott, sarcasm is only one of many different forms of humor. You should try out some of them

  • 22

No doubt he would be starting for SC this year if he was offered and accepted. I wish he was a Trojan, like his dad. All the best to him. SC failed to recruit enough offensive linemen towards the end of the Carroll years and hasn’t caught up yet. While there are some exceptions, like Sean, it generally takes two years in a college program for an offensive linemen to be ready to start.

  • Fred Sampson

I know Left Tackle is the highest paid position among Offensive Linemen in the NFL , so why is Right Tackle considered the toughest to play in College ?? I don’t get it !!

    • TrojanFamily

it’s not Fred. Well not by anyone other than the USC beat writer at the Daily News.

  • Cheap seats

Didn’t Pat Harlow give up the most sacks in one game to the great Derrick Thomas?

    • gotroy22

You will even trash a great Trojan like Pat Harlow to defend Kiffin?

  • The Capper

Scott, as much as you try you will never be a TJ Simers.

  • sureshot32

Not to pile on the venerable Scooter McWolfenstein, but left tackle is widely considered to be the toughest position to fill/play because most quarterbacks/people are right-handed and thus, the left side is their blind side.
