USC Coach Lane Kiffin Would Not Offer Oregon State OT Sean Harlow

The Oregonian has a good story on how Oregon State true freshman Sean Harlow, the son of former USC great Pat Harlow, is starting at right tackle for the Beavers. The key point is every USC assistant coach wanted Harlow but not Lane Kiffin.

Pat Harlow asked USC to stop contacting his son because he was tired of seeing the staff contact his son but not offer a scholarship.

“I wasn’t really a big fan of Lane Kiffin,” Sean Harlow said. Story here

  1. Would Kiffin have offered with a full set a scholarships?

Probably, if not to keep the staff and alumni happy, Harlow is a football legacy, after all.

But then he would have languished on the bench, like most recruits Kiffin offered only after badgering by his staff.

      • That’s the said thing. He would have languished on the scout team while AW does what AW does, like get penalized at crucial times, all because AW was an Granville, Ohio recruit and Kiffin wanted to keep the recruiting line open.

          • You can’t spell SUCLA with out a C and an S. If you’d put down the Ripple for 5 minutes you’d realize that. Ate CLAP.

          • U(n), as is UNfinished business, or #1 to UNranked? LOL. Ate CLAP – wow, BURN! I feel so ashamed.

          • Hi Stu! How is your **gina? I hear your mom’s basement is cold today? I bet your parents are really nice guys. Caleb is almost as good as Manfro. Can we have him too? Let’s see, what other BURNs can I write? Oh FACE! Damn, she will never recover for certain. Maybe she’ll just have to waste time writing on somebody elses board. How ‘bored.’ BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRn.
            Ate CLAP guttie.

          • This may be the dumbest thing you’ve ever posted. George shows some real insight (and is critical of Kiffin, so it’s definitely not some rah rah post) and you come back with this? Is this because CSUN, like USC and UCLA, rejected your application?

          • that’s the sort of grammar you expect from Troxans? That’s the said thing? He was an Granville, Ohio recruit? LOL.

      • Probably the same one we wiffed on with Benenoch. Damn, we wanted that guy. Have fun running for your life Brett. Don’t worry, the Heisman is in the mail. Yes it is, I promise. Oh and Jimmy, we’ll miss you when you’re in Seattle next year. SUCs for SUCLA and Sark.

        • LOL. YOu’d kill for a kid like Caleb right now. Guy’s lights out as a true freshman, as are the other 2 freshmen we have on the line. Imagine the hurt they’re going to put on poor SUC in the coming years! Harhar!

  2. Leon McQuay was asked after the game, what was the biggest reason for you coming across the country from Florida to USC? His answer, “Lane Kiffin was the biggest reason”.

Not everyone liked Lane, WE GET IT!! But he was a damn good recruiter.

    • Wolfie didn’t write the article, he’s just passing it along because it’s interesting. A parent’s point of view and all. Get over your Wolfie hate already!

      • Of course, Wolfie didn’t write this article…. that’s because he is incapable of writing such an article…..Scottie is the master of cutting and pasting the work of other reporters on his own blog….

        • You may not want to kill the messenger on this one. Wolf can’t be wrong 100% of the time. Kiffin did not show much ability in evaluating linemen. Maybe that should have been delegated to Ed O?

          • That really is the story. Kiffin WAS a good recruiter–of skill positions and athletic 5 star recruits. What he wasn’t all that great in identifying was the grinder, O line types (although I think the D line is in pretty good shape). I think rather than Ed O, they need to bring in an O line coach like Pat Ruel (they really havent recovered since Kiffin got rid of Ruel).

          • That is true but beyond the number of stars a player has, it is important to be able to evaluate talent on your own. See Jerry West for example. A great evaluator of BB talent and potential. It is a real skill to be able to try and project how a young player will develop physically and mentally…and then be able to successfully sell the program and the school.

        • It amazes me how you rah rahs still show your faces, much less continue to attack Scott after he was proven completely right about Kiffin. You really have no shame.

          • It amazes ME that you are content with the mediocrity of one Scott Wolf… different strokes, for different folks….Wolf was PROVEN COMPLETELY right?…. you, sir, have no shame….

      • Stu, you are really funny. Interesting isn’t even in Wolfie’s vocabulary. He is a troll beat writer, plain and simple. You and your little troll friends live here. That’s why this blog exists. Wolfie knows it, so he feeds to the trolls like you. Congrats! Now that’s interesting.

        • actually, his blog exists because you trojies are so easily trolled. Like a kid whose big brother is always picking on him just to draw a response, you troxies keep coming back for more and more and more.

          • Funny that Stu went big brother on us. He’s the kind of troll who hides behind his big brother while he punches us. And she gives me crap about BURNing her about her **gina? Put a tampon in it Stu. Oh FACE! Ate CLAP.

          • YEAH! BURN! GOT ME!

Oh, and see, you just had to come out to play. You just can’t get enough, can you? HARhar

    • It is sure easy for you rah rahs to continue to troll this site and continue defend the incompetent Lane Kiffin even after he was proven to be a huge mistake and you rah rahs were proven to be full of it. Harlow was a no brainer recruit with great blood lines and yet Kiffin managed to blow it. And here you are making excuses.

  3. So you’re saying Sean Harlow cutoff the recruiting process because Kiffin was taking his time to properly evaluate offensive lineman before offering him a scholarship?

Funny how the guys who don’t get USC scholarships are not fans of Kiffin!

    • LOL. We’ve seen over and over how well Kiffin “took his time to properly evaluate” players.

      • I’m sure that your wife wishes that she had taken her time to properly evaluate YOU!….. BURN!!!

          • I thought you’d enjoy it…….I was a bit worried it may have been well beyond your usual comprehension level of “knock, knock” jokes…..

          • yeah, I love wife BURNS. But they make less sense on a board where I’m apparently also gay, or live in my mom’s basement etc. At a minimum, you guys should pick a theme and stick with it!

          • Actually, the theme is fairly consistent….no one really likes you, AZZ-hole……outside the trolls, of course…. and even then, some of them have been turning on you lately, Azz-WIPE…..

          • Here’s a BURN. Stu — get a hobby. If we are your hobby, you have a **gina. Oh face! How will she ever recover from that one? Ate CLAP.

          • I could care less if anyone on this blog likes me, including the non-Sunshine Pumpers, such as you……

          • Drive Thru Stu, you are a married Taco Bell employee, living in his mom’s basement, who is SECRETLY gay. Also, you record video with your cell phone while holding it vertically. You are just the worst.

          • Nah, just make sure everyone knows that you have no **nis. Burn! How will she ever recover from that one? Ate CLAP.

  4. Why did Kiffin try to steal the Harlow family’s Christmas?

The Kiff hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.

  5. A kid with desire trumps a kid with stars from a recruiting service every time. This was a no brainer handled by a no brain

  6. For anyone wishing to read/hear another beat writers perspective, WeAreSC’s Garry Paskwietz (yes, gotroy22, this is the Rah-Rah guy….) will be chatting online about all things relating to USC football at 2 p.m. PT………

      • SUCLA, it costs money to write on a real blog. You know, the stuff that I pay you for taking out my garbage. I’m not happy with the way you spilled Ripple all over my porch last time, so this time, maybe Big Bro will lend you a quarter. Sorry we’ll miss you on Garry P’s real blog. Fight On to Thai Mex, Ate CLAP to lil SUCy.

        • Gary P? LOL. Isn’t that where everyone wants the team to quit now because they’re so thin? Harharhar.

  7. Wow, what a great story from Connor LeTorneau. I love it when Scott posts links to other papers. It shows what truly inspired journalism is.

I just wish the Daily News could cover college sports this well. Think they might offer him a job? I know I’d offer the trade in a heartbeat.

  8. Lane Kiffin did not want to offer Howie Long’s Son Kyle out of Saddleback College either and he was the Chicago Bears # 1 Draft Choice last April out of Oregon . And Longs Teammate at Saddleback was Menelick Watson who played the other Tackle spot was the Oakland Raiders # 2 Draft pick out of Florida State…LMAO ! And Ol’ Kiffin did not offer him either . So this is just another example of what a fraud Kiffin was, and he had NO IDEA what he was doing other then going after the obvious 5 star talent that the average Fan would have figured out and gone after.

  9. I get that Pat Harlow is a Trojan great. So does SC have to offer every ex – Trojan’s son a schollie?

  10. The kid goes from 5’10” 150 as a freshman to 6’5″ 265 as a Senior. Holy crap those are some serious genes.
