What Is David Shaw Worth To USC?

Whatever he wanted. Even if Shaw is not interested how can you not make a call and see if he would work for $6 million?

  1. Let’s be smart here and not waste our time on Shaw. If he were to leave Stanford, it would be for the pros. If your going to pay out that kind of money, I say go after John Gruden. He would be a much bigger get for us.

    • If you want the West Coast Offense of the Hackett years to come back to USC we could get Steve Mariucci for much less than Chucky.

      • Please learn more about football before posting something like that.

Hacket’s WCO that he ran at KC and TRIED to implement at USC is NOTHING like Gruden’s.

Gruden’s is more power-based and doesn’t rely on timing and slants. Stanford showed last night and the last 3 years that power can win at the NCAA level without some gimmicky spread.

        • Plus power football like they play in the SEC just dominates Oregon. You cannot be powerful and slow (Big 10 football, baby!). You have to have speed on the corners and power up the middle. But when you have the personnel, power pro-style football beats Oregon.

Gruden brings that to the table.

          • Yup.. SEC defenses are more fundamentally sound where in that part of the country, its OK to grow up “fat” and be a lineman. =)

Also, their DBs seem to tackle better as opposed to our DBs who want to be “cover corners” and tip toe around the ball carrier.

The spread exposes those flaws when a team doesn’t have a good line, over pursues, and DBs who can’t tackle.

Did you see what Stanford did to those bubble screens? They really took away a big part of Oregon’s offense.

  2. Silly thought Scottie. Absolutely NO CHANCE Shaw would leave Stanford for USC. None. He loves the school and is in shape for another huge raise. You must know nothing about Shaw. Of course it would give you some lame future column fodder. You could talk about how many turn-downs USC got before they named a coach. Then, you’d be talking about that for years.

    • No way the Stanford alums would let him leave after their stunning win last night. Shaw owns Oregon.

      • No argument here…Shaw isn’t going anywhere…. why should he?……the OL recruits that we missed out on (Andrus Peat and Kyle Murphy) were impressive…..their entire OL physically dominated the game….

        • Yes…their OL and DL has been impressive. Our line hasn’t pushed anyone around since Matt Khalil was here.

          Meanwhile, we’ve got Audrey Walker…

    • Yet he knew Kiffin sucked. You need to get into a rah rah support group to get over your grief that Kiffin was fired.

      • no grief here……just utter disbelief that your hero, Wolfie, still has a job……

      • Definitely not sad Kiffin was fired. However your idiot Wolf still obsesses over him. And apparently you do to. Nowhere in my comment do i mention Kiffin. Looks like he’s always on your brain! Continue your crying gotroy, Pout On!

        • Seriously, huh? The guy acts like Wolf was the only one who criticized Kiffin and 99.9% of USC fans were “rah rahs” who begged to keep him around.

  3. Would Wolf have written about Shaw burying his face in his Dennys menu after his loss to Utah?…..

    • Only if he lost 6 games with the preseason #1 ranked team like your hero did last season.

        • What do you think Shaw’s unwillingness to go play action on several 3rd and short situations?

I thought there were several opportunities late in the game where they could’ve really put the Ducks away more than 31-0, but they remained ultra conservative. It almost backfired at the end.

Another thought: Shaw calls his own plays. Why doesn’t Wolf give him grief for that?

  4. Last week Briles, this week Shaw, next week who will it be Saban? Shaw won’t leave, would love for him to coach the Trojans but Wolf as usual bringing whatever he can to draw attention to himself. How long were you at practice today? 5 or 10 minutes?

  5. Haden makes no move till December 1. Let coach O play it out with the current staff. If coach O runs the table he gets the job. Forget about anybody else till then.

  6. A more relevant question: Did the Oregon loss have any impact on the folks screaming for a spread offense-type coach?

  7. If USC offers Shaw $6 million, then he makes $6 million next year…from Stanford. Offer it to make the Farm pony up to keep him. But don’t expect Shaw in LA.

  8. I don’t understand how or why anyone would think that a coach, in our own conference, would leave a team and university he loves, for a team he BEATS EVERY YEAR, just for a little more money. How shallow do you think these men are– and why would even want someone like to come here??? A guy who we KNOW will simply jump at the next largest paycheck? F that…

  9. WOW! between Mike Riley / James Franklin / Kevin Sumlin, and now David Shaw..
    Your a joke reporter!
