  1. Coach O if he goes 2-1 or better. Otherwise, Gruden Sumlin or Franklin, no JDR. I’m guessing Haden has a better feel for it than any of us. There was a line in Saturday’s San Diego UT, “According to the LA Daily News Kevin Sumlin is at the top on the LIst”. Excellent rumor spreading Wolf!

    • No. If Stanford wins the conference, it is Shaw. if USC somehow beats Stanford and knocks them out of the championship game, I’d give it to Graham at ASU. Only way Orgeron wins coach of the year is if USC wins the conference title, which is an extreme long shot.

    • Imagine the scenario where Orgeron wins out, receives the Pac-12 Coach of the Year, and Haden hires someone else as head coach. Now I would say Haden would have made the right choice… but we could have a bizarre situation.

  2. The real question is, who should the Daily News hire to run the “Inside USC” blog.

Hey wolf, the horse is dead for the month of November

  3. I don’t even know why you put Franklin or Del Rio even on this list. It would be foolish to hire them over Orgeron at this point.

    • Agreed – Jack DelRio has his hands full with Denver and is determined to not lose that opportunity to prove he can coach in the NFL with decent talent. He’d be a fool to come to USC and they’d be a fool to hire him – not a good match.

  4. Briles. Among the elite in coaching up his players. Makes the most out of what he has.

    • I think he is being left off the list because he is a Texas guy. But I also think it is increasingly likely that Mack Brown will be back with Texas leading its conference (except if they pull off a miracle and convince Saban to leave–I personally think Saban’s agent is making it seem like he will leave to make Alabama pony up even more).

    • I’d say Briles is not on the list ‘because’ the Athletic Department isn’t foolish enough to let that out let there.

Briles is the best available especially if Saban creates a skillful ‘interest’ to replace Brown at TX and TX is foolish enough to fall for it – thus alienating Briles and allowing an offer to be made to come to USC.

  5. Tough decision for Haden regarding Orgeron. He has done an outstanding job saving the season. Loves the school and brings a lot of passion. He has been the perfect guy for this situation.

The real question is he SC’s guy for the long-term? His record at Mississippi was very weak. Not an easy call.

    • Uh MS isn’t exactly the garden spot of the USA mind you Oxford is better than Starksville or Hattiesburg but to try to entice anyone outside the deep south to go there to play – good luck – too far from Heaven too close to: Baton Rouge-LA, Tuscaloosa-AL, etc..

    • indeed, a very tough position for Haden. He can’t dismiss the much-beloved Orgeron as a candidate, yet he also can’t dismiss the alumni that expect national championships on a consistent basis. Haden’s measuring stick has to be: With Orgeron at the helm, can SC win a national championship? That is the standard question for any coach under consideration.

    • Haden just needs to give Orgeron a contract and the new HC if not Orgeron will have to deal with it, which I am sure most coaches would be happy to have him.

  6. Several fans from other schools are voting for Orgeron. That old hag Linda from fighton247 is voting for Orgeron every second.

  7. Sumlin’s agent planted his name so he can jerk A&M for more money, same with Saben’s agent. Gruden is the man, Ed O is the fallback choice, then again, Haden might hire a black lesbian.

  8. Down side of hiring Orgeron is that we lose a great line coach. Upside is the players get In n Out.

  9. Ed Orgeron is everything you want a Head Football Coach to be, Pat Haden better get it right .

  10. IDEAL SITUATION:
Hire Gruden, and let Orgeron stay on staff as assistant HC, and recruiting coordinator, since Gruden doesn’t have the college experience.. and keep Pendergast and his defense!
