USC Morning Buzz: Time To Play Colorado

The Trojans are in chilly Colorado for a night game that will be probably occur with a kickoff of around 30 degrees. It highlights a growing topic this season about placing TV before fans with an increasing number of night games throughout the Pacific-12 Conference.

“We built over a billion dollars (leaguewide) worth of football facilities with the (latest) television contracts,” Washington State athletic director Bill Moos told the Seattle Times this week. “You can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”

  1. Ol Scott’s blog typos are now carrying over to his column– should never happen

Football should be played in the daytime, but of course, money rules all these days.

  2. It’s no colder in Colorado than it is in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana or Illinois, where they play a lot of football! I got a busy day today and tonight I can sit down and watch my Trojans put on another beat down. I love night games!

  3. I keep asking is USC the only team playing in the dark ice cold? Doesn’t Colorado have to come out into the elements also? I do agree that this is not the optimum game to have on at night but Larry Scott only cares about the $$$ and nothing else. Not the players or the fans. Will he ever leave?

  4. Let’s just be grateful that Larry was given a big contract extension. More Thursday and Friday night games at the Coliseum! I don’t know which Scott irritates me more…

  5. “And it will be even rougher when it is pitch black at kickoff instead of a more logical day game.” I didn’t realize that Folsom Field doesn’t have lights. But if Saturday evening games are so awful, why wasn’t Wolf saying the same about last week’s game against Stanford?

Putting Wolf’s latest bit of histrionics in perspective. The
average temperature in Boulder today is expected to be low 30s with a low of 24. USC last played Colorado in Boulder on November 4, 2011, and the low temperature that day was 17 degrees with an average temperature of 37. USC won 42-17. About the same weather as two years ago, and it wasn’t an issue. Wolf spends half is column complaining about the weather when he should realize that USC can win in any conditions.

  6. Once again the players and fans are the big losers in the Larry Scott era. Thursday and Friday games, not knowing the times of games until the Monday before, playing when East Coast fans are asleep, no tailgating, traffic nightmares, playing in direct competition against high school football…only a brainless rah rah could defend this.

  7. Totally agree with the PAC 12. Doesn’t matter what time you play. Be prepared and don’t make excuses. College football has changed and you have to go with the changes such as days or times. Its a big money business and is benefiting every school in a big financial way. Suck it up…….

  8. The day of the USC game and Scottie writes about night games and WSU – really? The temperature difference in Boulder is only a few degrees from the daytime high and kickoff – so this is not a big deal. The Colorado fans are the ones attending the games for the most part, and they are used to this cold weather – why should we, as USC fans, care? And guess what Scottie – the midwest and east coast are all playing games today at lower temperatures then USC will – so pussy-up Scottie and put an extra tampon on.

  9. Give it 10 more years, and Larry Scott, in a desperate attempt to be noticed by one of the pro leagues, will give us indoor 6 on 6 flag football played on a basketball floor with a large green decal overlay, and no #HashTags of course.
