UCLA WR Shaq Evans v. USC

SHAQUSC players were not even out of Boulder on Saturday when Shaq Evans was brought. Remember his comments in September to 710-AM: “This year, we’re going to try to embarrass them, honestly. They’re struggling, it’s just awesome to see that. I hate them. So I’m just loving it. I’ve always hated them.”

An early response came from Su’a Cravens: “We’re not worried about his comments. Everybody hates USC.”

  1. I think more people hate UCLA than hate USC. I can’t wait to see USC spank UCLA next weekend,

    • You’re wrong – far more loath USC then UCLA for the simple reason USC is a national threat every single football season. Never forget the words out of that corrupt former Miami AD ‘Paul Dee’ as well as Lou Holtz mocking – Su’a Cravens said it best “…everybody hates USC!”

But they all watch they always watch….

      • I agree with you but please consider that more people respect USC than ucla. They hate us but we still stike fear in their hearts.

        • They hate us because of our success. I wouldn’t say a lot of people hate fucla, I’d say nobody really cares about fucla.

          • Not quite as simple but some truth there. People hated UCLA basketball during the heyday…then Duke basketball. Also, it is how some fans…not ALL fans…respond to success. Success can breed arrogance. Oregon fans certainly became arrogant…and some team members conplaining about the Rose Bowl..and see the result? Mike Garrett symbolized that arrogance and there are those that are proud of their arrogance…call it swagger or whatever. That breeds dislike and does not breed respect. True enthusiasm, like Ed O has brought is great. Taunting and cheap shots…not so great.

          • Probe any program that continues years after years to be in the mind of others is going to be disliked no matter how they act. The NYY succeed because they plan to – the same with USC. Good programs/teams win because they constantly look to improve Arrogance? Swagger? Win enough times and do it with consistency and you’ll see swagger because the rest were willing to settle for ‘the moment’.

          • There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Confidence is acting like you have been there before…and can also allow for some humility. Arrogance is boastful…like some of the earlier Miami teams.

SC spent 25 years not having national success and then Carroll came along. Alabama had their dry spell. Hard to find consistent excellence in college football. The marquee programs all have their down periods. How long they stay down is largely a function of who they hire as HC.

          • Same can be said for the NYY a full 18 yrs – 1978 – 1996 – 1 WS (1981) appearance (1981) and then the re-emergence w. Joe Torre in 1996 on ward. The problem for the average teams/franchises is that the historically powerful attract those who want to be in the thick of it.

Sad for UCLA but the SC game, more often than not, is their ‘Bowl Game’ and worse is their inability, when getting waxed, as to why the opponent wasn’t the reason -no – rather it was their own fault. That to me is the flip side of so called ‘arrogance’ – it’s a reflection of being a poor loser – ‘Hook em’ Horns shoutouts after losing the 2005 game from the fans.

          • That is just recent history, from 1999 forward. The program fell into total disarray and irrevlevance. It is not rare for SC fans to root against UCLA and likewise. No news there. There were certainly a few Trojans that came over to Wang’s blog today to “celebrate” that ASU won yesterday. Pretty typical stuff.

          • I won’t dispute that but the original thread of this discussion is perceived ‘arrogance’ – frankly UCLA exhibits little because of the lack of achieving what the envious (and that me lad is the flip side of this discussion i.e. ‘sour grapes fans’) is perceive is arrogance.

BTW I’m with you per Mora – best coach since Toledo whose was the best since Prothro. I have never understood the accolades given Donahue considering the truly great talent he had in the 80’s and 90’s and never seriously challenged for a national title – Toledo was one victory away from that n 1998 and show the door in after 2001.

          • You’re right SUC is huge in China. SUC spends mucho on marketing SUC as an education utopia. SUC just never mentions football player grad rates.

          • You’d have to pretty clueless to think USC’s rising academic profile in East Asia is somehow something about which to troll. That is, unless you want to argue that Chinese students are inherently less talented than American students. Which is it, Grand Wizard?

          • Ahh i was wondering when you’d make an appearance. Great showing by the gutties yesterday! “Pick-6 Hundley” is well on his way to the Heisman cermony!

        • Right, that’s why the FCGSUC BB team is so respected. Nice 2014 goose egg recruitment class.

      • rustupid…..What? “U$C is a National threat every single football season”…I guess you forgot about last years UNspectacular season when the team finished UNranked.
        fit UN!

        • See. USC finishes unranked one year and Summer’s Eve here uses it as evidence that the program isn’t a national threat. Douchey doesn’t realize his example proves the point. When USC finished unranked, it’s news. When UCLA does, it’s simply a Tuesday in January.

        • Newsflash – you post here Bozo we don’t bother on the UCLA board – you post because you are full of ‘envy’. You remind me of a Red Sox fan

      • SUC” is a national threat to engage in blatant cheating at football, Comerade. Besides your players never graduate from SUC. How many former SUC QB’s have won a Super Bowl in an actual game. Suitcase Rodney Peete doesn’t count as he was a career third string B/U QB and Jimmy (Bandwagon) Hill crony.

      • Suckee is playing the anti-Chinese race card to troll USC now. The university is raising its profile in East Asia and attracting some of China’s finest college students. Only a low IQ Anti-Chinese racist like Suckee would consider this something to criticize. Are you dating that “Ching chong, ling long, ting tong” girl now? Or do you just wanna be her?

  2. How long until Thai, bucksh!t, and “suc” return to the blog? Do they take another day off to ease their pain? All that talk about them being higher in the South standings, how does it look now?

  3. The comments are unimportant. There have been comments from players on both teams over the years. The game will be decided on the field. What we have are 2 programs that are on the rise. UCLA playing a ton of young players and a resurgent USC team under Coach O. Should be a great game.

Call me a Bruin sunshine pumper if you will, but the next few years for both teams is looking bright if SC keeps Coach O. I am sure SC will be favored in this one at the Coliseum. Looking forward to the game.

    • The rest of the Pac 12 will see this giant black hole of talent staying and going to USC/UCLA and away from Oregon, Stanford and Zonie land. This game will be a hard fought victory for whoever wins, which I expect to be the Trojans. Unfortunately, the winner goes to the Sun bowl and the loser to Vegas bowl!

      • What I’m wondering, is if we are witnessing the end of Oregon, the beginning of Arizona, both, or neither. Lol.

        • We will see. I am ashamed of several fellow Bruins that think we would be better off without Mora…jumping ship like a bunch of losers. There memories are very short.

We have an OL put together with bubble gum and bailing wire and 4 RB’s out with injury and 18 freshman playing. It’s called reality.

I am sure SC will be favored..but I also believe it will be a very competitive game. The future battles will be in recruiting.

          • With USC and UCLA both having something to sell recruits why would they want to go to Eugene, Palo Alto or Zonie Territory?

          • Stanford is a pretty good choice academically….but they recruit more nationally because of admission requirements.

Sizzle for Eugene may be waning without Chip and I don’t get the attraction to Zona schools except they can get in. Washington has done a good job too…but with 2 good local schools…I think more may be staying home.

    • What a Mensa comment! Biggest who cares in the history of mankind. Go solve problems on SM Blvd.

  4. You know what I hate? I hate those silly clown shoes the Trojans had to wear last hear. Absolutely hideous.

  5. Here is my unoffical poll of the Trojans here. Possibly a Wolf type question. Which coach, Mora or Orgeron NEEDS a win more this coming Saturday?

      • Joe…is that you? It’s been so long. Did they finally take that ankle bracelet off? Guess your spirits are soaring.

    • I’ll answer your question. CEO does. Mora is safe for the foreseeable future. Everything will change drastically for CEO if SC loses to UCLA.

      • Agreed. Plus the schools have different expectation levels. All UCLA needs to do is compete with USC to placate the boosters.

        • For now, yes it is Orgeron. If SC is as strong as you guys think and a national power, then competing with SC is very important. Competing means actually winning your share of the games which means we would be a national player, which is what many of us want. If SC is mediocre, then competing isn’t enough. We will see if our AD is up to the task.

        • No, UCLA graduates its Football players, SUC doesn’t give a cr*p. We (SUC) be a Football Schol and SUC players don’t need no stinking edukaystion.

          • So that’s your spin Suckee? As long as UCLA has a higher graduation rate among its football players than USC, its boosters are happy? We’ll start your chant once you lose “that’s all right, that’s ok, our BA in PE will get us a job teaching high school driver’s ed and coach high school football someday!”

Oh wait, sorry Ack Probe. I didn’t want to bring up your lack of a degree. I know it brings back painful memories.

          • HeySUCLA didn’t graduate from fUCLA. In fact, he will bandwagon ASU next year.

    • Coach O if he wants a job.. Mora has a job..
      coach o lost to ND.
Can not lose to both Rivalries!

  6. It would be interesting to see the outcome if a resurgent USC were to play ASU again today, post-Kiffin…

  7. What a difference a month makes….USC favored over the gutty little overachievers…. #backtobasics

  8. VERY TRUE!
Everyone hates a winner.. so other schools and fans have some kind of dislike for USC Football..
We heard it from Arizona St, from Arizona from Washington St..
    Nothing new
