Do You Blame Ed Orgeron For Quitting?

Was it too much for Ed Orgeron to see another fellow Pete Carroll assistant get the job. Or was he being a bad boy by leaving in a huff?

    • Honestly ‘No’ – by the same logic would you want the last year’s consensus favorite there as a distraction at every: meeting, practice, road travel, post-game press interviews? Well?

More you look at it sadly the more this makes sense.

  1. No idea until we all know more – I’d say this was never going to work out unless Coach Orgeron got the job outright and the lack of preparedness is why that was not a serious factor when deciding to choose a new HC.

I sense all will be better off in the end.

    • Agreed. I love Coach O and I think he deserves our love and respect, but it was clear on Saturday that we got outcoached.

  2. Of course not. We’d all like to say we’d have the backbone to walk if disrespected in such an overt fashion as it appears CEO has been.

  3. He wasn’t given much of a choice when there isn’t a job on the new coaching staff.

  4. It’s insane to think was going to stay after being overlooked for the HC job. Silly troxans.

  5. Just a bad call all around. Bad hire by Haden. Shouldn’t have to settle… especially if the reports of potential salary were true. If you can’t get Petersen or Franklin, you go find someone as good. You don’t get the fifth or sixth best head coach in the Pac-12.

  6. I can’t blame the guy but he should’ve stuck around for the bowl game. It would’ve shown a lot of class and made him more desirable as a HC to other schools.

  7. I don’t know – seems the older one gets the less the idea of ‘respect’ should matter – he was given a chance to prove himself and he did nobly but not to the level of skill this program needs to have to be USC.

Smarter move would have been to state (haven’t seen it) sincerely gratitude of having this opportunity – a desire to stay on as I (Orgeron) investigate other opportunities and congratulating Steve Sarkisian as the new coach.

Always better to ‘wait’ – I sense it may have been Ed who put a gun to someone’s head and not the other way around.

Unless it is a life in imminent danger it is always always always better to let emotion cool!

  8. I don’t blame him. Anybody would quit after getting b-slapped like that by his boss.

    • Hopefully, not many. Clean house. If we’re stuck with Sark, we may as well give him a chance and let him be mediocre with his own people.

      • I agree. Let’s get a new staff in there. To be honest, our D line, O line and LB’s did not do well vs ucla or Stanford. Not to mention the Arizona St game. We were out sacked 7-2 vs ucla. We were supposed to have the better front 7.

          • Very DL this year, no doubt….next year?…..with no Barr? No Marsh? No Zumwalt?…. it’ll be interesting to see how Fitts, Vanderdoes, etc. develop next year….

  9. What else could he do? There has to be a consequence to Haden for how he obviously mishandled this. And Coach O’s first priority needs to be where Coach O will coach next year. He has to be available now. Sucks for the kids, but charge that to Haden.

  10. Why should he stay and help out someone who he is a better coach then. You know Haden communicated it in such a way the would make Coach O quit.

  11. I had loved everything I had heard Coach O say and do before Haden decided to hire Sark, but now it is pretty clear Haden made the right decision for USC. Instead of being “outraged” he was passed over, Coach O should have been outraged at his poor preparation and inability to make simple adjustments against the Bruins. Kicking short and to the other side of the field is HC 101. Coaches get fired when they are “outcoached” on offense, defense and special teams. While Coach O exudes passion, the CEO of USC Football really needs to be a bit more articulate. A report said Coach for years chosen to live in a hotel while his family remains back in LA. The HC is not the road warrior recruiter, but the CEO of the program that brings families, alumni and big donors into his home. Anyone who has been a Chairman/CEO and has had to hire an important divisional CEO will know that Haden made the right decision. For the guys who emotionally see this as a major act of “disrespect” by Haden and worthy of a temper tantrum and quick resignation, you and Coach O are wrong. It won’t hurt you, but I hope this does not hurt Coach O from getting an HC opportunity that he has worked so hard to earn. Good luck, Coach O!

  12. No.. But he should have finished the season and coached the Bowl..
Ed. O should not have walked out on these kids who he referred to as “Sons” and “Family” … Hurt and Disappointment is understandable.. but these kids admire him, and respect him..
    FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED
