His buyout at Washington is $1.5 million. Reports in Washington indicate he will bring defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox with him.

  1. Wilcox is the only positive as far as I can see…and any O line coach other than the ones we have are an upgrade

  2. that news about Wilcox is the first good news out of all this mess. Although to be fair, Clancy really improved the defense this year. What really matters: does coach O stay? Haden better throw money at him to get him to stay or this will be an abject failure

  3. Though known primarily for his quarterbacks, Sarkisian has produced a 1000-yard rusher every year that he has been at Washington.
    2009: Chris Polk (1,113 yards)
    2010: Chris Polk (1,415 yards)
    2011: Chris Polk (1,488 yards)
    2012: Bishop Sankey (1,439 yards)
2013: Bishop Sankey (1,775 yards through 12 games)

  4. What will be funny is the media scrambling over to Westwood and begin asking Mora if he is leaving for WA!

  5. Good hire.

    1) Knows the recruiting landscape. Can hit the ground running.

    2) Develops solid QBs. See Matt Leinart and Jake Locker.

    3) Unlike Lane, has proven he can win at the college level. Took over a winless UW program and turned it around. There’s no recruiting base there.

    4) He’s a USC guy, knows the program.

    5) Not like Ed O is definitely going to stay, but this leaves the door open for him to stay. Sark and Coach O know each other well.

    6) High energy type of guy.

    Questions:
WHo is going to be his supporting cast? This is crucial.

Is UW going to go after Jim Mora, Jr? I think they can get that joker.

    • Energy? Did you say energy?

I’ve watched Sark coach tons of games and I can’t remember a time that I would describe his demeanor approaching “high energy.”

  6. I guess Nick Holt will be HC after Sark.
There is a reason UW fans call him “Seven Wins Steve.” I see nothing good about this hire. I’d rather take a chance on an unproven coach than one that will max out at 8 wins.

  7. Bruce Feldman is also stating Sarkisian was increasingly Haden’s focus as the season wore on.

  8. I suspect that Haden chose Sark during the 3rd quarter of the ASU game. I don’t think he ever seriously considered anyone else. That is why he only interviewed one other candidate (and at a time when he couldn’t take the job anyway).

Only upside: O coaches the team for the Bowl and Sark can just recruit for the next month.

And for those of you who think O stays, I think he probably is hired by a lesser BCS program like Illinois or Connecticut. I suspect he’d rather be a HC again than serve as an assistant under Sark.

    • Shrewder move than meets your eye – nothing beats an internecine conflict – ‘dawgs begin to barkin’…..hounds begin’ ta’ howl! Sark is a better coach then Ed and knows the recruiting territory even better than Mora.

Your worry should be keeping Mora and Mora’s is what happens if he loses to USC next year! Ouch!
