Marcus Martin Injury Update

USC center Marcus Martin suffered a kneecap injury against UCLA that will sideline him about 2-3 months. He will not require surgery. It could mean he returns to USC for senior season though.

  1. most of the juniors will stay. on offense you will have a better chance to catch balls because usc will be more of “spread offense” . on defense there are some maybe but nobody so highly ranked in there position group to leave early.

    • Boosters will not be happy if Trojans switch to the spread. I doubt Sarkisian will choose to make the full switch. I’m sure there will be spread plays, though. Still, he claims UW ran a run first – and with USCs running backs, that’s a positive. I bet people like Bailey on defense will be gone.

      • Bailey will attract attention, but another year and he will greatly improve.
This was a somewhat downer year for him.
MM will greatly enhance his chances by staying. He was just rounding into shape as center when the injury occurred.
Graf underperformed throughout his Trojan career.

  2. That’s an important piece to next year’s O-line. MM has gotten better this year while at center- his first year playing there. Still want to see what Jordan Simmons, Zach Banner, and Nico Falah can do,

    • We’ll need all of those guys to step up, especially with Aundrey Walker and MM rehabbing, and Kevin Graf, John Martinez and Abe Markowitz graduating……And Chad Wheeler had better bulk up and improve on his foot work…. Barr ate him up alive

    • If Jordan Simmons and Zach Banner had any big time skills at all they would have played, because Kevin Graft was horrible and Andre Walker and John Martinez were average at best. Time for USC to move on with new Offensive line recruits.

      • And if SC gets Damien Mama, he will only have 1 year and then gone for 2 years on a Mormon mission. SC needs several OL

      • I get your point, Fred. However, some players do take time to develop and aren’t always ready right out of High school or simply haven’t put in the time and effort. Graf started early but never got better. Neither did Martinez. It is too early to give up on these guys much like it is too early to give up on a player like George Farmer- but that is different story.

    • If Martin returns then USC will be strong in the middle. Walker actually looked much improved at RG and at times dominating; his main problem is mental as he has all the physical skills. But we need to replace both OT. Wheeler was way overmatched against UCLA and Stanford and Graff was a cream puff.

  3. I”m glad to hear the news, his injury looked nasty. I’m a Bruin and wish him the best in a speedy recovery.
