Pat Haden Not Worried About Backlash

Pat Haden said he hasn’t heard any negative feedback on the hiring of Steve Sarkisian.

“I could have named Mother Theresa and there’s people who wouldn’t be happy,” Haden said.

  1. Epic Fail on the impulsive Master Plan: hire an average coach in a feeble attempt to oust Mora, while avoiding talk about the blowout. Yes, guys in suits sat around a table and actually went over this convinced at how smart it sounded. Someone needs to do a Sarkiffin Double Visor spoof on the “double rainbow” youtube video stat! Can’t wait for the rehearsed Sarkiffin damage control video from Haden.

    • The icing on the cake is how all the press went to Mora today, burying the Sark hire. Mora’s contract extension announced smack dab in the middle of the Sark presser. Classic. Bruins always seem to be a couple moves ahead, just like last Saturday when there was no answer for Marsh, Barr, Hundley and Perkins. Nice try, Mr. Haden, but your ploy backfired.

      • Ploy?…. Please!…You are giving Haden WAY too much credit…..he isn’t smart enough to be that clever and calculated…..but, he has YOU fooled, obviously……

      • always? You mean the last 2 years? You’d have to be 2 years old to use the word “always” in this post.

      • Seems like UCLA over-reacted and now have a situation where their coach is overpaid with a long term contract. We have the baby bruins exactly where we want ’em.

    • You really think ousting Mora was anywhere in the plan? Please… only some dumb bRuin would think to try something so feeble…

      • You are totally right, complete coincidence that Sarkiffin (way down on the list) is hired on the Monday after the blowout and just so happens to open up the job in the hometown of the coach that blew you out. I wonder who dropped the ball in confirming Mora would actually take the job.

        • For real, you are kidding though, right? You don’t really think Haden is putting up millions of dollars, jeopardizing the the future of his Alma mater, and setting up a new coach with a 5 year contract, just because he thought Mora might leave, right?

Jesus… its like you think you have Saban or Pete Carol over there…

Let me assure you that a couple wins with an asterisk isn’t driving Haden to do anything as stupid as you are suggesting.

          • Good point. I guess he just didn’t want to get turned down by anymore coaches higher up on the list.

          • Keep guessing.

If he really wanted Mora gone, he would have stuffed his pockets with those millions and just took him from you.

Everyone knows where that guy’s loyalties lay…

Hint: he prefers green to baby blue

          • Haha. First UW was going to steal him, now Sc could have but chose Sark instead? Good one!

  2. She’s dead! She had less coaching and administrative experience than Haden. She was probably a ND homer. Did. I say she’s dead? Was Haden considering her? She would have been a horrible choice and I agree Sark is better. Maybe Haden should have been looking in the ranks of living coaches.

  3. It all goes away if you win. Pat seems to think he did his homework here, but still a roll of the dice if you ask me…

  4. The state is broke – good luck coming up with the coin for this 50% increase to Mora ‘plus’ upgrade of facilities. A bel-airian phoned into Max and Marcellus and was bragging on how they’ve raised the parking fee at the Rose Bowl from $15 to $25 and ‘half goes to the athletic dept.!”

    • Didn’t you hear?!?! They are trying to raise 50mil for renovations– LOL

      Good luck with that…

      • Err..apparently my comment failed to go through.

Anyways, what mediocre Ruins do not want to admit is that they’ve lost faculty and researchers to USC because it is a private university that doesn’t have to worry about budget cuts.

      • Santa Claus? Oh I forgot Jerry is one of Obama’s boys and it will come out of Obamacare savings.

        • Money for the Athletic Department comes FROM money made in the Athletic Department plus private donations. Athletics are not funded by the taxpayers.

Or it could come from all the money Cheney said we were going to make off the Iraq War.

          • They are just playing dumb, they know fucla atheltics is funded from the atheltic department.

    • You seem like a smart guy, I am shocked you didn’t know the salary does NOT come from the state’s budget, it comes from the athletic department’s revenue.

  5. he hasn’t heard any negative feedback?????

all the players are crying like babies, the alums are puking and not one person has said it’s a great hire!!!

was he drunk when he said this? the dramatic nature of the Mother Teresa comment suggests he was plowed at the time!

maybe the realization he leveraged Jimmy Mora into a long term contract was too much of a kick to the crotch for Hadden!!!

    • weird, all of the reports I’ve seen, ESPN, FoxSports, Yahoo, etc. all have said that this was a great hire. Ill wait to see how the team plays next season and decide then. Meanwhile, fucla has 2 mediocre seasons and they offer a 50% raise and 5-year deal! You’re AD really is as dumb as everyone says.

      • Broke the bank at fucla, now they can’t have girls horseshoes and ping pong teams everyone watches so closely. Kind of Reaganesque.

      • If fucla has had 2 mediocre seasons why do you think hiring a coach with a worse record and paying him more was a great hire?

        • Did I say Sark was a great hire? I said I’d wait until after next season to judge the hire. While I don’t know if Sark will succeed here, I do think he did a respectable job bringing a winless team to 4 bowl games or however many. Part of me thinks about what he might be capable of with the talent level he can bring to USC.

      • Yeah right, even YOU don’t believe your dumb post. You know Haden hired Sarkisian with the hope that Mora would jump the ship to UW. It backfired! now USC is stock with a coach that was on the Hot Seat, and we got our coach for 6 more years. LMFAO
Thanks Haden, keep doing a great job! LMFAO

        • I will bet you $1 that Mora won’t be around in 6 years…….BTW…I figured that $1 is all you can afford…

          • I would bet you, but I’m still trying to collect on 6 bets from Saturday’s game from Trojan fans, and have not been successful on ANY of them – so, not thanks, welching must run in your Trojan fan base DNA.

        • Are you really that stupid? You think Haden would spend millions of dollars to hopefully get Mora out of fucla?! The guy is not Nick Saban or Pete Carroll. You guys just locked in a coach for six years after 2 mediocre seasons. Your poor state school is begging for donations so that you can pay his assistants, let alone try to upgrade your practice facilities.

          • I see. ucla has been better than USC for the past two seasons, you’re right. Enjoy Charlie Weis 2.0. What sports are going to be cut to pay for Mora and his assistants?

          • we will just keep on winning national championships and all the other sports. no need to eliminate any either sports in our program. thank you for your concern

  6. I slept on it, listened to a lot of people and I think that this may be a good hire. Of course time will tell, but Sark has my support, make it work.

    • Share what others told you that makes taking a mediocre Pac 12 coach who was one of Pete Carroll’s basketball pals a good hire for the #1 football program in the land. I’m all ears.

  7. Haden says he hasn’t heard negative comments about his hiring of Sarkisian. Really ? This guy has his head in the sand. Time for him to go.
